Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Assisting the Group Legal Services Manager in providing legal services.
• Travelling to, liaising and maintaining good relationships with the Department of Mineral Resources in relation to all mining right tenure/compliance matters affecting the various Group operations in South Africa and in relation to prospecting right applications lodged on behalf of the Group
• Liaising with BEE partners and ensuring that all matters related to BEE shareholder governance (statutory, contractual and otherwise) are in place and kept current, and staying abreast of trends and precedents as well as the expectations of the Department of Mineral Resources in relation to BEE compliance
• Assisting with representation on the Health, Safety, Social and Environmental Committee and, with the other members of the committee, ensuring that the Committee is kept abreast of amendments in legislation and general trends in international best practice
• Assisting in the drafting and reviewing of agreements that need to be concluded on behalf of companies falling within the Group, ensuring that the interests of the Group are advanced and protected when agreements are concluded both at an operational and corporate level
• Providing written and verbal legal advice to companies within the Group, at both an operational and corporate, as well as local and international, level to ensure that the interests of the Group are protected
• Assisting with general administration

Minimum Requirements:
• BA or B Com LLB
• At least five years’ post qualification experience
• Admission as an attorney to the High Court of South Africa is preferable but not essential
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Power Point and Excel
• Valid driver’s license

Other Skills/Competencies:
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills with a keen eye for detail
• Detailed knowledge of mining, company and other relevant legislation to assist in ensuring that the South African domiciled companies falling within the Group are compliant from a statutory as well as contractual perspective
• Broad working knowledge of legislation governing the diamond mining and downstream industries (including the Diamonds Act, Export Levy Act and associated legislation) will be an added advantage but is not a requirement
• Excellent administrative and record keeping skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
