System Engineer – Linux

The successful candidate will be working as part of a highly skilled and dynamic company that builds and supports applications in a technically exciting and challenging industry. The candidate will be expected to install, maintain, test, document and support the organization's IT systems within our Linux environment.

Minimum applicant’s requirements as follows:

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• The effective provisioning, installation, configuration and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.
• Control and verify system backups and file archiving, ensuring all required file systems and data are successfully backed up to appropriate media, media is stored, and recycled.
• Support knowledge (Create, change, and administer user accounts per request, Hardware & Network Troubleshooting).
• Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
• Train, guide and advise users in the appropriate and efficient use of the IT infrastructure.
• Knowledge on Internet solutions. e.g. IP, DHCP, DNS fundamentals etc.
• Experience within a helpdesk environment and helpdesk software. e.g. Redmine
• Undertake other duties not specifically stated which from time to time are necessary without altering the nature or level of responsibility.
• Form part of a standby roster for possible after hour support.

Required experience:

• Virtualisation (KVM/ OpenStack/ XEN/ AWS/ Hetzner): 1-2 years
• Monitoring Systems (Cacti Graphing/Nagios/ Zabbix): 2 years
• Orchestration and Provisioning (Puppet/Chef/Foreman/Spacewalk/Git/Ansible/RPM Deployment/Docker):1 year
• Storage Technologies (SAN/ NAS/ iSCSI / Fibre Channel): 1 year
• Scripting (E.g. Perl, Bash, Python, etc.): 2 years
• Linux Desktop & Server (CentOS/RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian) 2 Years
• Relevant Diploma/Certificate will be an advantage
