The Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT) offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated couple to become part of a ground-breaking project and fill the two following positions: (1) Lodge Manageress, and (2) Head of Maintenance. Accommodation for the suitably qualified couple is provided in a rustic bush camp (main house with 2 bedrooms, kitchen and veranda, as well as two outside rondawels) in the middle of free-roaming white lion territory, that is off the grid, but has gas geyser, gas fridges and solar lighting.Experience and training in the ecotourism and wildlife / farm management sector is required, but suitable applicants must be able to adapt to a forward-thinking and adaptive management approach with a focus on both the conservation importance and cultural importance of white lions and ecosystems in general. As a non-profit organisation the WLT is not a mainstream commercial lodge / organisation, but offers a unique opportunity for specialist groups / workshops. The Key responsibilities of the Lodge Manageress and Head of Maintenance positions follows:Key Responsibilities of the Lodge Manageress:Managing a 14 bed lodge for specialist groups and workshops, as well as a 6 bed self-catering accommodation, and occasional day visitors.Managing the lodge staff of 5 personnelPlanning group itineraries with the CEO and Office AdministratorManaging the White Lion Leadership Academy - specialist training workshop held once a year for 4 week period at the lodge and associated accommodation.Ordering and collecting of supplies for the lodgeHosting guests at meal timesMarketing of the lodge and organisation via all media: website, social media, print media, fundraising events.Knowledge and expertise in IT a definite advantageFGASA & PDP qualification ideal so that the lodge manageress can assist at times in taking guests on game drives / lion tracking excursionsAbility to adapt to changing circumstances and logisticsNOTE: for safety reasons there is a ZERO ALCOHOL policy at the lodge and staff accommodationCandidate Suitability: • South African citizens only • Couples only, with relevant qualifications & experience for Lodge Manageress & Head of Maintenance positions • Minimum 5 years game lodge management experience • Excellent people management skills (guests & staff) • Fluency in English and Afrikaans (conversational) essential • FGASA Level 1 qualification is a definite advantage •Coversational Shangaan, Zulu or Sepedi is an advantage • Valid Code 8 driver’s license and competent 4x4 driving ability is a requirement • Valid PDP essentialKey Responsibilities of the Head of Maintenance:Maintenance of the 14 bed lodge and all accommodation / infrustructure on 3 different properties (building work, plumbing, electrics etc.)Maintenance of borehole pumps, river pumps, generators, geysers (gas, electric & solar), brushcutters, chain-saws, and other farm related equipment.Maintenance and servicing of vehicles (diesel & petrol) and tractorsExperience in building work, construction, plumbing and electricsProcurement and collection of hardware supplies etc. from townReporting to the Farm & Wildlife Manager with whom the Head of Maintenance will work very closely withFGASA & PDP qualification ideal, for assisting the Lion Ecologist & Head of Operations with taking guests on lion tracking excursions by vehicleStaff Management, Training & Maintaining Disciplinary CodeAbility to adapt to changing circumstances and logisticsNOTE: for safety reasons there is a ZERO ALCOHOL policy at the lodge and staff accommodationCandidate Suitability: • South African couples only • Minimum 5 years maintenance experience on a farm / game reserve • Mechanical experience in repairing vehicles (both petrol & diesel) •Excellent general maintenance ability (pumps, geysers, generators, brushcutters, plumbing, electrics, building etc). • Fluency in English and Afrikaans (conversational) essential • Coversational Shangaan, Zulu or Sesotho would be ideal • FGASA Level 1 an advantage • Valid Code 10 driver’s license and competent 4x4 driving ability is a requirement • Experience in wildlife conservation / management is definitely an advantage
