LOGISTICS SUPERINTENDENT

MINING INDUSTRY
What will you be responsible for?
Responsible for managing on-land outbound logistics from the mine site to the port, with a strong focus on expediting and ensuring timely delivery of export.
Co-ordinate the activities of the logistics function on the mine to ensure effective transportation of product from load out station/stockpile via truck and train to port within specified schedules.
Monitoring dispatches versus receipts.
Day to day duties could include:
Financial and budgetary effectiveness:
Regularly review and proactively monitor and appropriately respond to spend against budget.
Manage and report expenditure according to financial procedure.
Approving and authorizing service expenditure and requisitions for service providers and contractors.
Logistics co-ordination:
Co-ordinate the on-land logistics function and associated processes responsibly, cost effectively and in accordance with defined processes.
Adherence to Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) policies, procedures and transportation schedules.
Review sales order quantities and make adjustments in accordance with sound business and operational principles
Timeous ordering of trains and monitoring of supply of trains from TFR including:
Ordering, loading and releasing of trains within allowable free periods;
Loading of road trucks to inland warehouse according to the rail plan and road operations plans;
Managing real time deviations from the rail and road plans;
Planning estimated tonnage versus train availability.
Manage performance in terms of agreed SLAs and agreed KPA/KPIs and effectiveness areas of internal services and third party suppliers.
Report, analyze, review and present information to both internal and external stakeholders on logistics performance.
Operates rail activities safely and manages the RSR Safety
Management System including:
Compiling the quarterly report;
Applying for the annual renewal of the permit;
Support Engineering in the management of the preventative maintenance agreements with suppliers and service providers;
Support the Plant in ensuring the ongoing training and certification of
Plant employees as per Transnet requirements.
People Management and leadership:
Manage performance of direct reports ensuring agreements of annual goals, measuring performance against agreed goals and dealing with non-performance accordingly;
Talent management of direct reports, including career development and paths for all staff and succession planning for key positions;
Ensure that the work environment contributes to improved staff morale and increased productivity;
Coaching and mentoring of direct reports;
Supporting the Plant in ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for employees.
Minimum requirements:
Relevant diploma with specialization in logistics / export management / shipping (NQF 6)
Certification in the Rail Regulator Safety Requirements Act No 6
Valid Driver’s license
Relevant degree or higher diploma with specialization in logistics/export management / shipping (NQF 7 and above)
Certificate in Shipping /Maritime Law Beneficial
5 years relevant supply logistics/ shipping and exports management preferable within the mining industry
Transnet Operational Certification beneficial.
3 years supervisory experience.
Knowledge and experience of railway and road transport systems.
