Our client requires the services of a suitably qualified, well-motivated and results driven candidate to take up the role of a Mechanical Designer in Centurion, Gauteng.

PURPOSE

• Responsible to design, integrate, evaluate and support mechanical sub-systems mechanisms and components used in military systems.
• Collaborate with the system engineer (SE), chief designer and the project manager (PM), support procurement of hardware and logistic department as well as task management in a supportive role to the project manager

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Design models according to the SE requirements and link them to the correct BOM.
• Create Manufacturable and Complete Models and Drawings that can be accepted by Quality.
• Create and work in correct item structure as per Patria definitions (groupings).
• Create Pdf, DXF & Step Files.
• Create Assemblies.
• Initiate & chair informal design reviews with the SE to agree on the design before Formal review.
• Initiate Formal design reviews with the SE when ready.
• Design using standard items from the Chief Designer.
• Assign Technical Specifications (Paint spec, Heat treatment, Material, Welding etc.) from the Chief Designer.
• Check and correct all interfaces in the sub-assembly level.
• Check and notify all incorrect interfaces to the SE and the Variant Integrator.
• Request information (Technical Input) from the SE and the Technical Integrator and communicate frequently.
• Design according to good practices and allocated time.
• Optimize space and storage capability in the variant together with the SE.
• Create T-Sheets after making sure that there is no existing T-Sheet with the Chief designer.
• Create Standard Items after making sure that there is no similar standard item with the Chief designer.
• Recommends Standard Items to the Chief Designer.
• Perform basic Analytical calculations for components that does not require Simulations and retain proof.
• Notify the Chief Designer on completion of work.
• Create BOM and link it to higher level.
• Verify BOM with the SE.
• Intergrade designs to variant level.
• Optimize space and storage capability in the variant together with the SE.
• Re use other designs from other variants through the Chief Designer.
• Create transmittal for procurement when requested by the Chief Designer and send to SE for approval.
• Create CR packages when requested by the Chief Designer.
• Perform and verify basic Analytical calculations for components that does not require Simulations and retain proof

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• BTech Mechanical Engineering or Similar +3 Years’ experience
• Experience in Mechanical Design and Sheet Metal design +2 Years’ experience
• NX / Team Centre Experience +3 Years’ experience
• Knowledge and experience in System Life Cycle Process +3 Years’ experience
• Knowledge and experience in a military environment +1 Years’ experience
