Brief description

The purpose of this position is to supervise banks with respect to the governance and management of all risks. The scope of risks supervised includes counterparty credit, liquidity, market, capital and operational risks.

Detailed description

The Successful candidate will be responsible for, among other, the following task:

• Supervising, overseeing and participating in supervisory practices, including
- monitoring banks’ exposure to these risks;
- ensuring the capital adequacy of banks with respect to these risks;
- ensuring banks’ risk management practices;
- contributing to risk –based meetings with banks and their auditors; and
- analysing and interpreting risk-based regulatory returns
• Managing the performance of the a team of analysts
• Contribution towards attainment of department strategic objectives
• Contribution to special projects in the department
• Managing the attainment of operational objectives.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must:
• Bachelor degree in commerce, economics, science, finance, risk management, accounting or equivalent the field of specialisation OR equivalent
• Have at least 10 years’ experience in the financial services or financial regulatory sector
• Have at least two years’ experience of managing teams
• A postgraduate qualification in the aforementioned will be an added advantage

Job related knowledge:
• Understanding of the Basel Core Principles for Banking Supervision,
• Working knowledge of the Banks Act and associated laws and regulations,
• Understanding of key issues facing banks
• Knowledge of, and experience in, the banking system, financial and banking products, risk models and systems
• Fully conversant with the Basel framework at both a theoretical and practical level
• Knowledge of relevant risk management practices and standards
