Lead, participate, execute and manage the operations by driving business processes to achieve the units targeted profitability, quality objectives, productivity and efficiency, within the Contracts Logistics business unit. At the same time be responsible for growing the business unit to meaningfully contributor to the Company.
General Information
The role is based in Johannesburg
Domestic Travel is required
Core working hours are 07:30am to 6pm, with after hours and weekend work to be determined according to customer demands, for implementations, stock takes etc.
The role is a new position, as the division has been marked with growth targets for the company’s growth plans in future Horizons

Key Accountabilities
Execute and Manage Operations
Determine:
• Trends in the logistics Industry – specific to Contract Logistics
• Global best practices ito operational efficiencies
• How to gain a competitive edge
• Who are the right people to execute certain strategies
• Review existing products
• Current and Future technology strategy
• Determine the feasibility of introducing new services
• Proposed legislation/regulations
• Amendments to current legislation/regulations
Participate in the Contract Logistics operations strategy formulation and align to the Company business strategy.
Communicate the strategy to the operations division to ensure implementation.
Obtain the associated resources and secure to enable implementation of the strategy.
Implement the strategy in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Consult the operations strategy to determine the outputs required from the respective operations departments.
Identify and secure the appropriate resources for implementation of departmental plans:
• Human Resources
• Physical resources
• Financial – CAPEX and OPEX
• Suppliers
• Contractors
Create and maintain a climate conducive to performance to ensure that the departments deliver against objectives.
Initiate pro-active and corrective actions as required to ensure optimal performance.
Manage operations in accordance with proposed outputs and allocated time frames
Ensure detailed project Take-On and Implementation plan is in place for new business
Work closely with Head of Operations on different projects, business support
Overall responsibility for the IT functions, and specialised products deployed in the division – WMS, etc.
Ensure systems and processes are in place – manage and ensure that they are followed and working at all times
Provide proper structures and training to ensure operation runs efficiently
Minimise stock losses
Controlling and managing pallets.
Ensure all operational administration requirements are adhered to (inventory control, control of POD’s, returns, WMS administration, distribution management and other related activities).
Acquisition and Growth
Identify new customers and design supply chain solutions to entice new business in line with the business plan/strategy
Working through the board, identify, investigate and evaluate the feasibility of acquiring other contract logistics businesses that fit within our strategy
Identify and introduce new/innovative service offerings
Work closely with the sales leadership to ensure that targeted new business fits within the overall strategy
Audit and due diligence to be carried out on new business to validate information
Ensure branding is within the group’s strategy

Qualifications
4 year qualification in logistics/ Bachelor of Commerce - Advantageous
MBA/MBL advantageous
Experience
Minimum:
10 - 12 years operations experience in the logistics industry with:
Min 5 years at a senior management level

Strategic Human Resource Management
Manage managers in the achievement of planned divisional objectives and targets by ensuring that Contract Logistics has a high performance culture
Clarify manager’s roles and responsibilities, set performance objectives, manage and conduct performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and take corrective action where necessary
Ensure strong knowledge of HR policies and procedures and relevant legislation
Implement a management succession plan
Build a pro-active environment where the managers can take responsibility for results
Set and achieve Employment Equity targets

Ensure resource planning is done in conjunction with HRD and CEO.

Manage Divisional Budget
Prepare and manage the operational and capital budgets.
Approve budgetary expenditures within authorisation limits or delegations.

Overall responsibility for all aspects of the management of profitability of the division. Continuous improvement plans and cost improvement plans to be created, implemented and monitored.
Overall responsibility for the integrity of financial results and other reporting including meeting timelines set by the company.
Manage margins as agreed between the business unit and the executive.
Commercial
Negotiation of contracts and SLA’s in conjunction with legal department
Check and validate agreements to ensure the continuous viability of the business unit and the various contracts
Work with heads of functions (Sales, Marketing, Operations etc) on commercial issues
Provide input into pricing decisions and support tenders
Assess competitors
Produce Reports
Produce reports in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
Develop reports containing all relevant information
Quality-check the report to ensure accuracy, relevancy and completeness and apply changes where necessary
Submit the reports to the CEO and CFO as per agreed timelines.
Projects
Maintain ISO standards for the various facilities
Ensure Health and Safety standards are met
Roll out of WMS and its proper implementation at all designated facilities
