This position is to ensure that the South African, Shipping / Marine customers, schedulers and operators have in the field Shipping and Maritime expertise (available 24/7) to ensure safe, cost competitive and environmentally responsible marine shipping operations.

Ensure policy consistency and develop performance measurement and business improvement across the region particularly in respect of Risk Management, Ship/Shore Operations, Ship Vetting, Coasters and Barges Standards, Marine Incident Management and Marine Terminal Audits. Act as the GMAS focal point for East and Southern Africa

Commercial Performance: Measure and manage improvement in levels of vessel/terminal performance, levels of oil loss and demurrage as a result of local operations. Drive Maritime efficiency projects by interfacing with the relevant business units.

Business Assurance: Ensure that service level agreements are appropriate and ensure compliance with appropriate business controls and self-appraisal of business processes.
- Provide consultancy service to managers of depots, terminals and refineries.
- Support product supply to the regional downstream operations.

Deliver effective, fit for purpose shipping & marine advice, support and problem solving within East and Southern Africa
- Add value through efficiency projects, cost reduction, loss and risk management, conducting training sessions
- Trigger safe marine operations within Industry, Company and National requirements. Interface with Government and Industy partners in order to leverage an increase in standards throughout the Maritime community.
- As directed, support the exercise of local oil spill response plans, and support the management of any ship/shore anti - pollution interface.
- Provide the maritiem interface for SITME activities in East and Southern Africa and ensure terminal and port data is maintained accurately, travel to countries requiring physical inspection on adhoc asis
-Support the Marine activities of SRPP a joint venture based in La Reunion
- Build and develop understanding and competence levels of local staff.
- Conduct barge inspections.
- Support HSE advisers in the accurate mapping of HSE critical activities of shipping operations and the development of HSE MS for local shipping supply.
-Support business development projects in downstream plus as directed LNG and Upstream

The position may occasionally be required to extend travel outside of the normal hours to support all business downstream in new and existing activities. Extensive engagement with external stakeholders such as Port authorities, Senior Pilots, Tug operators, Ship/Barge owners, SIRE inspectors.
MOS might also sometimes have to travel out of his covered area to support MOSs in other countries of the EU-AF region

Experience and Qualifications required.
Thorough knowledge of shipping operations and ship/shore interface management.

Qualifications:
STCW Certificate of Competency in Navigation or Engine Competency, a Petroleum Dangerous Cargo endorsement would be a distinct advantage.
SIRE accreditation would also be a distinct advantage but not required.

Sea going experience on oil tankers
