Utilities Operator – Kwazulu Natal
Salary: R10k CTC Per Month

Purpose:
3-5 years experience in a similar role in a manufacturing and production environment.
Must have experience overseeing the following units: chillers, boilers, water systems, cooling
towers. Shift position so must be prepared to work weekends, overtime night shifts and PH’s

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct repairs and maintenance in order to:
• Duties to include; preventative maintenance on utilities machines and equipment; as well as responding to emergency machine break downs throughout the plant; Involvement with new design, installation and movements of existing machines; Overhaul and repair of machines and equipment. Ensuring machines and equipment on site are safe, working efficiently and fit for purpose.
• Perform to quality, waste, and production standards and goals
• Meet or exceed the customers (both internal and external) expectations
• Meet the highest of quality standards
• Communicate orally and/or in writing to other departments for resolution of mechanical problems, reporting defective material, coordination of job preparations, changeovers and daily shift information
• Report production accurately and timely including waste, WIP, time codes, raw materials, etc.
• Ensure your own safety while operating the machine and that of those assisting with operations

Manage the duties of an operator including but not limited to:
• Responsible to operate all the utilities equipment, Air Compressor, Refrigeration dryer, Softener plant, Domestic water, process water & Make up water
• Responsible to do all PM for all machineries according to PM plan.
• To carry out all job tasks instructed by his supervisor/engineer plus any other work necessary for installation and maintenance of plant equipment.
• The main responsibility to assist his supervisor/engineer to evaluate the condition of machines to diagnose the problems.
• To work according to shift schedule and work needs. To be responsible for safety of all maintenance jobs.
• He is responsible for fill the records of all maintenance and repair works according to ISO format.
• Statutory compliance from Mechanical side. (As per IMS & Occupational Health and Safety Regulation Act.)

Following will be covered under area responsibility

Major problems in the Area of each individual should note down in open point list.
• Down time /Frequency of break down in their areas.
• Spare parts consumed and status of spare parts availability along with complete spare part list of respective Machine /Area.
• Action plan for repetitive nature problem and open point list.
• Kaizens from respective area.
• History register of area to be updated
• Respective area all document, drawings, manuals & programs or parameters availability.

Job Requirements:
• 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining packaging film utilities machinery in a Biaxial Orientated Poly-propylene environment
• Trade certificate in Mechanical / Fitter
• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• Boiler Certificate
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure
• Ability to be self-directed and multitask
• Ability to follow directions
• Ability to lead and manage the performance of others
• Timeliness
• Ability to obtain forklift and overhead crane license and operate a forklift and overhead crane

Quality
• Ensure spare parts are in good order
• Ensure all areas worked in are clean and tidy upon leaving the area.

Food Safety
• Read and understand Work Instructions in regards to food safety
• Ensure documented completion of assigned inspections, checklists, and audits
• Ensure proper hygiene practices are followed

5S Initiative
• Understand, support and participate in 5S initiative
• Ensure work areas are maintained to Visual Standards
• Ensure 5S audits are performed and documented at specified time frames for their assigned area during shift

Safety
• Responsible for complying with all environmental, health and safety policies and procedures
• Read and understand all manuals relative to safety, food safety, training and process control-production and equipment safety
• Attend and participate in required monthly safety meetings
• Identify hazards and risk factors in the work area that may affect health or safety and take corrective action immediately. Report those that cannot be immediately corrected to the In charge and/or Safety Coordinator
• Responsible for and ensuring your ability to safely operate line equipment and other equipment (i.e. Hand jacks, hoists and forklifts)
• Ensures the safe handling and labelling of chemicals

Working Conditions/Environment
• Production floor - not climate controlled with no heating or air conditioning with high temperatures in summer months and possible cold temperatures in winter months
• Breaks and lunches can be taken in a climate controlled environment
• Equipment, safety, environmental and quality concerns may demand constant attention
• Rotating shift working 12 hour days and nights which could be adjusted as business needs dictate

• Required to sit or stand and move about the facility
• Walk or stand on concrete for long periods of time
• Climb ladders sometimes to high levels
• Assembling/Pushing/Pulling/twisting
• Frequent lifting of items not to exceed 25 kg without assistance
