Medical Science Liaison Officer – Oncology (SA & SSA)
A Pharmaceutical company based in Bryanston needs to appoint a Medical Science Liaison Officer (Oncology).

Position Purpose
Provide high level clinical and scientific advice to Healthcare professionals on company’s products and provides input to business strategy, therapeutic area and product training.

Key Performance Areas:
• Provide an understanding of the local medical community, clinical practice trends, HCP and patient insight and real or perceived gaps in current scientific knowledge and medical treatment
• Share emerging data with HCPs, discussing all aspects of the data in a scientific, objective and balanced way.
• Respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or unapproved uses of approved products, presenting such information in an objective, well balanced, substantiated manner that is scientific in tone and content, free of promotional messages, truthful, and is not misleading.
• Work with HCPs as partners in scientific activities that help advance disease understanding and are consistent with Medical Affairs strategy & objectives, such as: o Interact in the field with the medical community in the context of various medical projects such as clinical trials, Non Interventional Studies (NISs), Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISSs), health outcomes research, scientific exchange meetings.
o Lead the development and implementation of Medical Advisory Boards.
• Remain abreast of latest scientific knowledge and developments in defined domains of expertise, including by means of participation in structured training programmes.
• Conducts therapeutic area and product training for medical sales representatives.
• Identify HCPs with the scientific expertise to collaborate on forward thinking medical projects identified in strategic brand planning.
• Ensures adherence to internal standard processes and complies with regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Engage in strategic planning meetings with payer customers or hospital decision makers where the discussion of scientific topics is clearly separate from discussions of promotional and/or other business topics.
• Provides guidance and acts as a role model to support ethical decision making and proper prescription of medicines in brand activities.
• Provides expert medical advice and customer insight to contribute to the development and delivery of brand strategy and operational plans.
• Leads the delivery of medical operational plans and contributes to the Value Story to support brand objectives.
• Ensures strategic alignment with Regional & Global medical team.
• Provides medical input to the concept development of promotional materials/activities for allocated brand(s).
o Reviews and approves promotional materials in line with local and global Marketing Codes of Practice.
o Review and approve all promotional material and activities and related outputs with particular responsibility for suitability of documentation, accuracy and adherence to codes of practise and legislation.
• Responsible for the medical review of adverse event reports and provides expert local medical input for issues management e.g. safety alerts, product withdrawals.
• Support the development and implementation of local Patient Risk Mitigation Plans.
• Provides expert medical input into local regulatory submissions and activities.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine with experience in clinical medicine.
• Preferably at least 2 years of experience in the field on clinical or pharmaceutical Oncology.
• Experience in a Pharmaceutical environment preferable.
• Current familiarity with healthcare environment including opinion leaders, academia, the medical community, patient needs and related dynamics.
• Demonstrated expertise in synthesizing scientific information and communicating it effectively at peer level with HCPs.
