Permanent position in the Mineral and Metallurgical sector in Johannesburg.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Add to the profitability of the Division through procuring major research projects by providing unique expertise within a particular, specialised scientific or engineering area of expertise; direct research and development/experimental and/or service work, and conceptualize new ideas in technology which could benefit the industry and the country in the long term.

JOB KNOWLEDGE /SKILL REQUIRED
• Typically 11 years since graduation with BScEng/Hons, counting any full time post graduate study.
• Must have broad and specialist experience as a professional, covering recognised individual internationally-competitive technology, specialist technical leadership, being CI of several major projects, and business operations
• Ideal: MSc. or PhD.
• The successful candidate will be required to take a psychometric test

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Assist Head/Divisional manager to obtain major project work from the mining/metallurgical industry, in line with division's general long-term objectives, by providing international specialist expertise.
• Supervise and steer major projects in which interactions with clients and technical expertise are required at a recognised international specialist level. This international recognition should be based on individual expertise and not just the Company's reputation and work.
• Consulting on undefined complex problems as an international expert. Act on international technical committee or on board of international journal. Chair sessions at international conferences.
• Ascertain needs of clients, develop appropriate innovative areas for new work, and draft some of the divisional plans for technology and business.
• Ensure value-add to commercial and science vote projects through consultation based on individual expertise.
• Participate in the setting of commercial targets and ensure that adequate work is done and progress is achieved to contribute towards achieving them.
• Invent new technology, devise and follow QES procedures and set criteria for obtaining acceptable results, without needing any technical advice, but subject to client needs.
• Supervise and provide specialist mentorship and training to staff that interact with the position, and promote competence, confidence and harmony amongst them. As recognised technical expert, assist and supervise chief-investigators of projects.
• Ensure that the documentation of work and procedures is done and produce international specialist level reports, papers and presentations at international conferences.
• Keep up to date at an international specialist level with technology and business in an advanced specialist section of the division's work.

Salary package: R965,750 CTC negotiable.
