JOB TITLE Mobile Medical Unit: Regional Head Medical Doctor registered with the HPCSA
LOCATION North West province
SALARY R65 000.00 – R75 000.00

PROJECT OVERVIEW The Medical Doctor will deliver essential primary health care to conflict affected populations of the North West Area as part of the Mobile Medical Unit.

Internal: Health Advisor, Health officers, other clinic staff, Drivers and project support team
External: Community leaders, Directorate of health, local health providers

Specific Responsibilities: Medical/Technical
Curative Health Care:

• Provide consultations for all patients attending mobile clinic with appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses based on
South African guidelines.
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests as needed.
• Prescribe appropriate medications as per guidelines, ensuring patients understand instructions for dose and correct use.
• Identify all patients requiring secondary care and refer appropriately according to clinic protocol.
• Identify all patients requiring emergency care, stabilize condition and refer according to clinic protocols.
• Perform wound care and appropriate minor procedures using strict sterile techniques.
• Maintain high levels of hygiene at all times observing universal precautions.

Preventative Health Care:
• Identify all children and women requiring immunizations and refer appropriately as per clinic
• guidelines.
• Provide Family planning services for women including education, advice, prescription of
• appropriate method and follow up care.
• Provide antenatal care for pregnant women according to South African guidelines.
• Provide postnatal care and follow-up for women according to South African guidelines.
• Provide postnatal care for new-borns according to South African guidelines.
• Provide patients with education on prevention of illness, proper nutrition, and good hygiene
• practices.

Additional duties:
• Identify any outbreak prone diseases and immediately inform appropriate authorities further investigation and follow up.
• Keep clear and up to date records in a confidential manner and assist Health Manager in compilation of weekly and monthly reports
• Attend training sessions arranged by the Company and other organisations as and when required.
• Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Management Team.

Staff Safety and Security

• Ensure personal understanding of Companies Standard Operating Procedures and Contingency Plans as documented in the Companies
Security Plan.
• Comply with the Companies security procedures at all times, remaining aware of the security situation in office and clinic locations at all
times.
• Report any security incidents or concerns to the Companies Security Focal Point immediately.
• Report any issues regarding workplace practices to appropriate Management.

Logistics

• Ensure the MMU pharmacist and/or logistics team is notified of any needs regarding Medications, supplies and equipment in the clinic.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE: ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

Vocational qualification MBChB or equivalent degree
Must be registered with the HPCSA as a Registered Medical practitioner Specialist in General Medicine, Family Medicine or Gynecology
Work experience
At least three years of post-qualification work experience in relevant field
Further two years of post-qualification work, plus specialization training.
One year of previous NGO experience, directly implementing a health project

Languages
Strong working knowledge of English and various Black Languages (spoken and written) Strong working knowledge of English and Various Black Languages

IT & Communications Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Working knowledge of Power Point
