One of the leading furniture and décor retailers in South Africa is seeking a National Visual Merchandiser to join their team in Cape Town.
This role is responsible for directing the creative function relating to the merchandising of the brand on a national level and ensuring that it operates in an innovative and efficient manner. This involves maintaining a consistent high standard for the brand and visual team with constant creative direction and implementation to shop floor on furniture layout and creative styling ideas for Furniture and Homeware. The role includes national and possibly international travel periodically throughout the year.
Qualifications / Technical skills required:
• An Interior Design & Décor Degree/ HND qualification is required as well as a proven track record in this area at a national level.
• The job holder will demonstrate a passion for décor and will have Retail Merchandising exposure; s/he will be creative and be able to provide both creative concepts and a look and feel reflecting the brand.
• Good technical skills are required (AutoCAD/ Sketch up/ Photoshop) as well as comprehensive Microsoft office skills.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Visual Merchandiser, preferably in a décor or furniture retail environment.
• The ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to think strategically and commercially
• Organized with the ability to multitask
• Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
• Must have good project management skills
• Competent in MS Office (Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint), website, in house systems and email.
Competencies:
• Ability to see big picture; excellent people management skills; positive hands on, can-do attitude. He or she must be able to work independently, yet be a team player.
• The candidate must be positive, energetic, a self-starter and have excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Being able to work well under pressure is pre-requisite.
• They must have good communication and organizational skills, as well as a sound understanding of the retail décor market.
• Must be a team player with commercial awareness who remains calm under pressure.
