This senior level operational role requires approximately 8 -10 years senior level FMCG warehouse & logistics with Third Party Logistics (3PL) experience in the FMCG sector.

Salary package –ZAR 880 000 – R1.1M CTC – depending on current salary package & experience

Focus of the role:

Manage and lead the Distribution, 3PL function and Warehousing against agreed KPI’s

Design and implement necessary procedures and processes

Optimize and manage SLA’s as well as distribution & warehouse costs

Manage and maintain vehicles, equipment and facilities

Prepare and plan for Distribution and Warehousing growth requirements

Develop and manage Distribution and Warehouse staff


Function of the role (includes but not limited to):

Leadership and Management:

o Ensures compliance with SOPS and emergency ops procedures for handling, storing, receiving and stock dispatch

o Manage distribution and warehousing department costs vs budget, initiating corrective action when necessary

o Assist in assessment of distribution and warehousing performance and needs – with a continuous improvement focus

o Warehouse staff – assist with recruitment, selection, development and training of all staff

o Staff motivation and management

o Enhancement of technical and professional knowledge

o ensure personal adherence to company Code

o correspondence: Maintenance and Preparation of scorecards, reports, operations manuals, maintenance and repairs, Health & Safety, Security and disciplinary actions etc

o Co-ordinate distribution and warehouse activities through collaboration with other departments as needed

Manage all Receiving:

o Ensure accurate and timely completion of receiving documentation & procedure adherence

o Optimize container unloading – time vs costs savings

Manage materials and storage handling process:

o Ensure that all gods are securely and safely stored, including stock health management/ rotation/ FIFO/ traceability/allergens management

o Ensure compliance and adherence to handling materials and safe working practice

o Monitor stock management – stock health and adherence to stock rotation/ FIFO policies

o Manage stock held at 3rd party warehouse/ or container storage

Manage distribution:

o Optimize fleet control & routing inline with SLAs, customer needs and managing transport costs

o Analyze customers serviced and planned routes and report on the best practices of service

o Minimize failed /rejected orders by ensuring adherence to SLA’s / delivery time and shelf life guideline

o Analyze and track reverse logistics requirements at lowest possible costing

o Estimate peak delivery periods from stats gained

o Ensure SLAs are maintained during peak times and in the event of adversity/ equipment or vehicle failure

o Assist in managing product replenishment at third party distribution providers

o Assist in 3rd party planning, rates, SLA negotiation, scheduling with third party transporters (incl estimation of transport requirements and cost/ load optimization)

Food safety / HACCP

o Implement, maintain and monitor food safety in line with HACCP (or other standards) as per customer or audit requirements

Housekeeping, Maintenance & Repairs :

o Facility Management – maintain condition of warehouses, fleet vehicles and equipment through planned and preventative maintenance

Minimal Role Requirements:

Relevant Degree or Diploma (e.g. Logistics/ Warehousing/ SCM/ Operations)
8-10 years experience in FMCG warehousing and distribution activities including:
Analyses experience and development of improvement plans to address decisive action/ root cause analysis
Distribution and storage of chilled and frozen product
Facility Management – Fleet and Equipment maintenance
performance measurement using scorecard-related metrics
Effectively manage, lead, develop and motivate staff
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Effective and efficient with dealing with a crisis
HACCP / or another food safety programme
Experienced user in ERP – e.g. SAP or Syspro
Stock management and inventory control
3rd Party Logistics (3PL) management
O.H.S / Health & Safety management
Intermediate level Excel competency
Barcode scanning systems experience
High degree of attention to detail
Ability to act decisively
