Network Engineer – Telecoms (Cape Town)

An international ICT firm with a large African footprint requires the skill of a dynamic individual to join their team as a Network Engineer.

Your key responsibilities will include implementation of IP/MPLS POPs and Backbones, oversee IP/MPLS Service deliveries as well as provide 3rd level technical support to the NOC.


You will meet the following minimum requirements
• CCNP and/or JNCIS certifications preferred.
• At least 5-years working experience in the IP service provider space or equivalent.
• Significant experience with large scale complex IP Network Projects.
• Excellent skills in BGP configuration and troubleshooting.
• Excellent skills in Layer 3 VPN MPLS configuration and troubleshooting.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work under pressure with minimal or no supervision.
• Excellent skills in Layer 2 VPN MPLS configuration and troubleshooting.
• Excellent skills in IPv6.
• Advanced knowledge of Juniper routing and switching hardware.
• Knowledge of Huawei switching hardware.
• Willing to work late hours, and sometimes on the weekends.


Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• IP/MPLS Services Provisioning Oversight.
• Reviewing all non-standard IP/MPLS Service Delivery Feasibilities with Implementation team.
• Ensure all aspects of the network are documented to a common standard.
• Take the lead ensuring that the network remains operational 24x7
• Understand and Identify network risks. Propose solutions to mitigate any areas of concern.
• IP/MPLS Pop and Backbone activations/deployments across the network
• Work within scheduled maintenance windows to successfully upgrade IP Network devices with minimum outages to customer services.
• Provide 3rd level technical support to the NOC when required:
• Escalated tickets to Engineering from INOC will have to be resolved within a measureable time

Location: Successful incumbent will primarily be based in Rondebosch, Cape Town.
