Our client, a leading international Gold and Platinum Mining Group is looking for an experienced and qualified Occupational Medical Practitioner at their facility near Virginia.

The appointee should:
Have an MB ChB or equivalent Degree as well as a recognised Specialist Occupational Medicine Qualification or Diploma in Occupational Health.
Be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Occupational Medical Practitioner.
Have extensive knowledge of, and insight into the Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, Occupational Diseases in Mines and Works Act and all relevant labour related legislation.
Have a keen appreciation of ethical issues in Occupational Health Practice as well as insight into broad public health, including TB and HIV/AIDS and environmental issues.
Have well developed interpersonal and communication skills (including diplomacy) and the ability to work independently.
Have Management skills.
Display a sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including database management.
Be prepared to use own transport and willingness to undertake business travel as and when required.
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Stillwater Occupational Health Centre

Advantageous requirements:
Overall knowledge of the working conditions, activities, policies and procedures of mines pertaining to Occupational Health, including Occupational Hygiene and Safety.
Fluency in an official South African language besides English.
Working experience in the Mining Industry, or as an Occupational Physician with at least 3 years’ experience in other industries.

Key responsibilities include:
The Occupational Medical Team provides a cost effective occupational medicine service to Sibanye Stillwater, its operating companies and contractors. Travel to other areas may be required. Duties will include the day-to-day management of the Occupational and Primary Health Centres, Management of Primary Health care patients, Statutory Medical Surveillance and fitness to work assessments, multidisciplinary team work including reports to colleagues, related Disciplines, Management, Emergency Medical Services and rehabilitation team
Providing and monitoring quality patient care
Cost effective patient management
Undertaking of Managerial responsibilities including afterhours telephonic support
Organizing preventive medical programmes
Promoting health education
Working with staff members as part of a team
Good record keeping
Participating in CME’s (Continued Medical Education)
