Overview
The company has been the top production unit in S.A. for the last 10 years.

Experience
A tertiary qualification with a minimum of ten years running a medium sized integrated operation at a senior level. The applicant will not necessarily have experience in the pig industry but must have a proven record of accomplishment of successful management in a production environment.

KPA’s
Operations Manager
Each section has a team leader. The operations manager must familiarise him/her with the running of the operation and make themselves fully capable of managing the piggery and its production activities which are:

Section team leaders
Hold weekly production meeting;
Production versus targets
Forward planning, production, maintenance, allocation of staff
Taking note of time spent versus allocated time per task
Observing team leaders performance

Feed Mill and Raw material purchasing
Keeping adequate stocks on hand
Discuss hedging maize and soya
Weekly stock check for accuracy of mixing

Service of sows and gilts,
Ensuring the following is carried out by Breeder Team Leader
Pre-housing check for maintenance issues
Have adequate gilts on hand to make up shortfalls
Regular observation of AI technique
Order semen if required
Weekly check of 21 day returns, who, why
Weekly check of 28 daypreg test, use as early indicator of staff/pig problems
Check on sow condition from BF tests
Ensure feed levels correct per chart
Weekly sow check, note anything wrong and deal with it
Hygiene levels in buildings
Select breeding gilts
Draw up vaccination schedule and check it is carried out
Select animals for culling
Make certain data input is correct
Check Data on FARM

Farrowing performance
Pre-housing check for maintenance issues
Regular observation of farrowing
Regular checks of feeding with LH
Regular checks of health issues
Observe treatments are in line and prevent late cross fostering
Weekly stock count pre-weaning
Check Data on FARM

Weaners
Pre-housing check for maintenance issues including feed tank
Correct temperature and ventilation set
Feeding programme followed
Feeders set correctly
Daily health check
Stock count on moving checked
Check data on FARM

Growers
Pre-housing check including feed tank
Stock intake number confirmed with LH
Feeder settings
Daily health check and action if required
Check house records with LH
Improvac injection schedule and check for missed pigs
Sort out slow growers as porkers
Work out marketing from weighing sheet with LH
Close batch after 12-13 weeks max.
Check Data on FARM
Check daily intakes from load cells with LH

Administration
Farm Data
Pork 360 and Compartmentalisation records with LH
Frequent laboratory checks on water and feed with LH
“Farm” data verified weekly
Check weighing sheets with LH
Plan Marketing with LH/KF
Check mill stock figures weekly with LH
Plan raw material purchases to have adequate stock on hand with LH
Prepare and distribute “DASHBOARD” every Friday

Staff
Updating team leaders KPA’S
Quarterly review of staff performance
Counselling sessions for above when necessary
Disciplinary measures when necessary
Grievance hearings as required
Arrange training sessions/ to go on CSV courses
Organise production bonuses as per schedule
Check timekeeping with EC

Veterinarian Visits
Have all records up to date
Highlight specific problems
Involve senior staff
Distribute report to senior staff and plan action where necessary
Short report on highlights to directors
