Outreach Teacher – Physical Science FET Phase X 2

Job Purpose
To deliver outreach education services in MST subjects at selected schools in the Gauteng province
Key Responsibilities:
1. To teach the MST subject/s at a frequency and at the grade level/s specified in their contract, and as and when required from time to time by the manager depending on the need.
2. To maintain a high level of professionalism and competence in their planning and execution in every aspect of their teaching responsibilities
3. To properly prepare for all activities and lessons, and to ensure that all resources properly prepared beforehand.
4. To monitor and record the results of all activities and lessons delivered and to report to the relevant supervisor/manager.
5. Conduct learner assessment and compile a learner progression report to submit to the relevant supervisor/manager.
6. To attend all departmental meetings, training sessions and other planning and preparation activities
7. To maintain a safe, secure, disciplined and conducive environment and atmosphere. To act in loco parentis while conducting activities with learners at schools and on the premises of Sci-Bono;
8. To monitor and assess learners’ progress and achievements.
9. To act as a positive adult role model for learners and their peers, through positive and proper and professional conduct, supportive and sensitive behavior and teamwork.
10. Assist with driving the team members on their field trips, and on other trips to be identified by the supervisor/manager
11. To manage and take care of all tools of the trade and all other resources allocated to them
12. Assist with the development and quality assurance of teaching and learning material for the department

Key Requirements:
• A Bachelor of Education degree with specialization in Physics & Chemistry (or Physical Science); OR
• A Bachelor of Science degree with Physics & Chemistry majors coupled with the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), OR
An REQV-13 teaching qualification with Physics & Chemistry as majors, coupled with an Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE)
• Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) an added advantage
• Light motor vehicle Driver’s License (with at least a year driving experience)
• 3 years of Physical Science teaching experience at a public or private school or in an NGO setup
• 1 year of teacher training and education material development is an added advantage
• Some Mathematics teaching experience at FET phase is an added advantage
• High level of Physical Science curriculum content knowledge & Pedagogic Content Knowledge (PCK)
• Computer proficiency & e-Learning t methodologies
• Excellent presentation and organisational skills
• Instructional leadership and classroom management
• Ability to design assessment of learning programmes and moderate teaching and learning material
• Verbal and written communication skills
