You will be responsible for constantly striving to achieve quality packaging keeping in mind cost saving whilst considering the technical, commercial, legal and environmental aspects of packaging materials within a Fast Moving Production environment.
You will interact with packaging suppliers, printers, marketing, product development, process development, engineering, manufacturing and logistics in order to drive consumer-focused innovative and optimized packaging solutions.

Education:
BSc. degree in Food Science / Engineering (or similar) or a Diploma in Food Technology / Engineering
Certificate in Packaging Technology
Minimum of 3-5 years practical packaging development experience in a retail, packaging manufacturing or FMCG environment.
3 years experience designing new packaging

 Key Responsibilities
Manage Key Packaging Development project
Communicate with all role players with regards to progress and issues relating to packaging development.
Ensuring legal compliance of all packaging material for the food industry.
Specifications (fill sheets, packaging specifications and fact sheets) and Bill of Materials must be maintained and developed for new products for hand over to factory or co-manufacturer.
Drive sustainability and re-engineering initiatives to reduce our impact on the planet and improve profitability.
Stay abreast and constantly update knowledge of packaging technology advances and trends both locally and globally through trade press, trade shows, Forums and networks of packaging suppliers and manufacturers in order to provide solutions and ideas to meet packaging challenges and demands of the organisation.
Keep pace with changing local regulations, labelling regulations, trade metrology, waste standards and internal policies to apply to current and new packaging.
A thorough understanding of the manufacturing plant, line capabilities and co-manufacturer facilities. Troubleshooting and assisting manufacturing in solving packaging related problems on the line.
Support LEAN, efficiency and waste reduction projects within the supply chain related to packaging.
Plan, conduct and document packaging trials run on new packaging materials
Ensure packaging transit trials are run and the robustness of secondary and tertiary packaging material chosen is acceptable.
Develop pallet patterns using CAPE software and CAD for work maps.
Chair innovation meetings with key packaging suppliers to ensure the company has access to latest in packaging technology advances and to drive projects forward.
Management of packaging quality with suppliers through monitoring of non-conformances and relevant follow up with suppliers.
Conduct and lead packaging supplier audits with Supplier Quality Assurance Team and drive for the closure of relevant audit findings.
