Pharmacist: Research

One of Africa’s leading research centers that engage in research, training, policy-formulation and advocacy is currently looking for a dynamic and driven Pharmacist: Research based in Johannesburg.

To implement the required pharmacy related duties for various studies in accordance with study protocol according to Standard Operating Procedures, Sponsor requirements and local (South African) Regulatory requirements.

Main purpose of the job
The purpose of this position is to conduct pharmacy duties in accordance with applicable requirements for clinical research.

Education, Training and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
• A valid South African driver’s license
• MS Office proficiency
• South African Pharmacy Council Registered
• Internship and community service completed
• Internship and community service completed
• Experience in Clinical Trials / Research x 2 years
• Good clinical practice (GCP) certification
• Experience in IMPAACT and PHARMA clinical trials
• Good administration skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Knowledge of paediatric care as well as HIV

Key performance areas
• Conduct pharmacy-related activities in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP)
• Comply with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
• Implement and maintain study specific procedures according to protocol requirements
• Train staff on protocol and study specific SOP’s
• Conduct internal monitoring and quality assurance of pharmacy related documents and processes
• Identify any regulatory issues and bring it to the attention of the Study coordinator
• Prepare for any monitoring and auditing visits from regulatory authorities or sponsors
• Interpret prescriptions and dispense medication according to protocols
• Advise participants on the correct use of medication
• Calculate and monitor adherence to medication and provide adherence counseling
• Maintain drug accountability records for all medication
• Conduct stock control to ensure the correct availability of stock levels and monitor expiry of medication
• Be on call for after hour emergencies on a roster basis ( week per month).
• Prepare medication for destruction in accordance with SOP’s
• Administer, process and file relevant documentation
• Compile weekly drug accountability reports and study specific reports as and when required
• Complete pharmacy CRF’s as required, and file accordingly
• Staff management
