Plant Engineer
As the Plant Engineer, you will be required to maintain and service all equipment within the Packaging facility. This will require the initiative to be creative in problem solving as well as the technical skills to manufacture basic parts within the facility workshop. Ensuring all equipment remains fully operational to the manufacturer specification. Manage and control all spend on Spares and repairs including external service contracts.
· Effectively carry out the preventative maintenance on all equipment within the facility
· To ensure all service contracts are performed to the required standards of the Business at all times
· Conduct continuous press observation and measurement during normal shift operation, identifying all potential failure or deterioration in output performance from manufacturers machine standards
· Determine cause of potential failure or performance deterioration, and either complete remedial work or plan such repair in conjunction with the departmental manager
· Compile equipment failure history to develop preventative task maintenance
· Provide training as and when required, provide signed record of such training to Human Resources
· Manage and order all required spare parts ensuring costs are kept well within the budget determined
· Create a critical spare parts list ensuring that the suppliers hold such stock making these parts available at short notice
· Call on outside assistance as and when the team cannot resolve the problem due to a lack of technical knowledge
· Prioritize repairs through importance and delegation
· Produce annual maintenance budgets for the Packaging facility
· Manage all related staff within the engineering department, create a schedule of who is on call out duty every week/week-end
· Play a key role in continued improvement of equipment and maintenance
· Manage all machine rigging and relocation within or outside the facility
· Plan all time frames for equipment removal or installation
· Ensure outwork suppliers for rigging or transportation are performed accurately without damage to plant and equipment
· Experience in the operation of a lathe to turn simple parts as and when required

Autonomous Maintenance
· Set-up a program to train operators in the basics of equipment care
· Implement autonomous maintenance in seven steps
· Drive autonomous maintenance vigorously
· Create standard operating procedures on maintenance aspects that operators can carry out
Planned Maintenance
· Set up a yearly planned maintenance schedule
· Detail what machines and when the machines will undergo planned maintenance
· Detail the length of time machines will be down for servicing, by studying the level of deterioration
· Prepare for the yearly maintenance well in advance
Quality Maintenance
· Carry out weekly tests using appropriate measures to ensure:
· UV lights are curing at optimum on all presses – record the results
· Rewinding machines are counting meters accurately
· Tension loadings on film rewinding machines operate within manufactures specifications
· Equipment is maintained to such a state that the quality can be repeated from run to run
Improvements
· Through simple kaizen initiatives carry out tasks to make process improvements
· Build improvements to be retrofitted upon machines when the need arises
· Make changes to machines that will improve quality, reduce change-over times and allow the company to make products it could not previously
Housekeeping
· Ensure subordinates keep working area clean and tidy at all times
· Ensure a safe and healthy working environment on the factory floor and encourages maintenance of health and safety standards
· Ensures housekeeping is performed on a regular basis throughout each day
· The implementation and sustaining the 5S program to further drive quality and output
Knowledge and Experience:
· Minimum matric qualification
· Printers engineering qualification / diploma
