Polymer Development Chemist (G451)
*Minimum BSc/BTech Chemistry/Polymer Science though an MSc Chemistry/Polymer Science would be highly preferred. 3 – 5 years experience in a related development position in the polymer or coatings field.*
Location: Johannesburg (West Rand)
Description: A Polymer Development Chemist is required to join a development team based at a company on the West Rand (Johannesburg) to formulate and test new and existing paint formulas, raw materials and competitor products. The position will report to the Development Manager with key duties to: undertake project planning, laboratory experimental work, application evaluation testing, field trials and competitor evaluations relevant to the allocated technical projects; apply formulating guidelines issued the research team and raw materials suppliers and derive optimal formulations; maintain accurate records of all laboratory work and interpret experimental results for reporting progress and suggesting the future direction of allocated projects; liaise with Technology Manager and ensure that manufacturing requirements are taken into consideration during the course of each technical project; ensure that best technology and raw materials selection is applied throughout each project; implement technical protocols and best operating practices during technical projects including transfer to Production.
Key Requirements: Minimum BSc/BTech Chemistry/Polymer Science though an MSc Chemistry/Polymer Science would be highly preferred. 3 – 5 years experience in a related development position in the polymer or coatings field.
Additional Requirements: The capacity to carry out laboratory work in accordance with agreed plans and with minimal supervision; the ability to produce high quality work within agreed time targets; reliability to implement experiments with scientific accuracy and common sense; ability to identify and highlight observations that are of an unusual nature and table them at review meetings; the capacity to interact with all team members and participate in project review discussions; a high level of motivation, self-discipline and energy with a desire to meet targets.
Remuneration: Market related (basic + benefits)
