To coordinate and facilitate movement of Botswana bound container traffic between TFR, Port terminals and Botswana Railways to improve efficiency and service reliability in accordance with joint Company / Botrail / TFR service level agreements.

Position: Port Traffic Liaison – Durban

Indirect Relationships

Internal: Operations, Finance, HR, and Sales & Marketing

External: TPT, TFR, Botrail, Shipping Lines, Agents, Port Stewards, SA Container terminals and Company Customers

Position Requirements:

  • B.Com Degree or equivalent in Marketing / Sales, Transport Logistics/ Supply Chain logistics - ESSENTIAL
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Ports terminals, Rail, inland terminals, Commercial, Cargo Logistics environment
  • Knowledge of maritime / Port Regulations / operations
  • Thorough knowledge of port/shipping industry
  • Advanced Customer service mind set
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills

Main Purpose of the job:

To coordinate and facilitate movement of Botswana bound container traffic between TFR, Port terminals and Botswana Railways to improve efficiency and service reliability in accordance with joint Company / Botrail / TFR service level agreements.

Key Performance Areas

  • Liaise regularly with Company TFR, Shipping Agents and gather information regarding scheduled Company bound container movements
  • Ascertain that Botswana bound container traffic move in accordance with scheduled timelines and agreed KPI’s
  • Issue and relay information to relevant stakeholders relating to detentions and impediments of train departures affecting Botswana bound traffic
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract freight agents, shipping lines and cross boarder traders in line with the company’s Road to Rail strategy
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, shipping agents, vessel managers and port users to improve rail usage
  • Monitor train movements and liaise with Operations Manager and other sections as necessary to improve efficiency within Botswana bound corridor
  • Generate monthly reports on container movements; Botswana bound traffic, timelines and forecast periodic movements of containers destined to Botswana

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Improve operational efficiency through constant engagements with role players via monthly operational meetings
  • Monitor key performance areas against targets and communicates any deviations and or disparities
  • Create new accounts for new customers and ensure customer data is up to date all the time
  • Identify potential business opportunities within KZN and Gauteng and along Botswana corridor
  • Collect market data and analyse market trends in order to assist in strategic customer service planning
