Sovereign Foods is looking for a thorough and committed individual to take up the role of Poultry Veterinarian, reporting to Senior Management. The successful incumbent will be an innovative, pro-active and results orientated individual that will implement and maintain a preventative flock health program under directives of the Group Veterinarian and in collaboration of Senior Production Manager. This position will be based in Harteespoort and its surrounding areas.

The ideal candidate will be in possession of a BVSc (Veterinarian) qualification and be registered with the SA Veterinary Council, with more than 1 years’ experience in a Poultry Production environment.

Results Required:


The successful candidate must be able to achieve the following results:
• Provide input and follow the vaccination and medication program (Flock Health Program) as directed by the Group Vet;
• Support the Feed mill, Nutritionist and Farm Managers to achieve optimal Feed Conversion;
• Review Broiler growth results on a regular basis, identify trends and assist the technical team through observations and practical recommendations;
• Perform poultry post mortems to establish cause of death;
• Support Rearing, Laying and Hatchery Production Managers to obtain targeted Chicks per Hen Housed;
• Reduce mortalities by evaluating farm cleaning, disinfection and house preparations processes;
• Support Rearing, Laying and Hatchery Managers to obtain excellent Day Old Chick quality;
• Ensure compliance to relevant statutory requirements as far as:
a. Reportable diseases
b. Vaccines
c. Medication
• Ensure compliance to Import and Export permits.
