My client is an international company based in Bryanston.  They are looking for an experienced Powerbuilder developer.


The company is looking for bright people who would also be prepared to travel to clients within South Africa and overseas from time to time.


The candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the company’s product and related software.


Minimum Requirements:


Education


  • University degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written) is essential, additional language is a plus

Functional Skills


  • Knowledge of accounting and travel agency financial operations is preferable
  • Interpersonal Skills (Written and Oral)
  • Organisational / Time Management Skills
  • Proven experience on application teams with good problem solving, debugging & troubleshooting

Technical Skills


  • At least 3 years PowerBuilder experience
  • Any additional programming skills would be beneficial like C# or VB.NET programming knowledge or equivalent
  • Ability to interpret specifications.
  • SQL, Report writing and advanced Excel skills would be highly advantageous
  • Experienced with MSSQL 2005/2008  including stored procedures and functions
  • Knowledge of .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) Interfaces.

Responsibilities:


Main Accountabilities and Activities


  • Conduct unit, package and performance tests of the software and ensure a level of quality in line with the local guidelines.
    • Support the end user in the production phase by debugging existing software solutions in response to support call logs and Change Requests.
    • Analyse and correct problems received from users according to agreed service levels.
    • Respond to customer requests for information concerning system functionalities, system status, down-time, procedures, installations, set-up, error messages and general services as appropriate.
    • Maintain Support records
    • Code, test and troubleshoot objects utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
    • Maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by developing detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
    • Write new program code using prescribed specifications.
