My client has several vacancies available for Principal Systems Engineers.This group is responsible for conceptualising and driving large research and development and enterprise engineering programmes that mobilise architecture and engineering capabilities for key clients and for developing key systems engineering and integrative capabilities in the organisation.

You will establish and maintain ILS (Integrated Logistics Support) engineering capabilities. This includes policy, procedures, best practice and tools. Their aim is to develop the ILS capability to a national level in support of industry and government initiatives.

Requirements:
• A Master’s degree in Engineering.
• At least 10 – 15 years’ relevant working experience in ILS engineering.
• Knowledge of the ILS engineering process and its close integration with the systems engineering process as part of the total systems engineering objective.
• Knowledge of the ILS analysis, data engineering and logistics support system elements engineering.
• Knowledge of the objectives and the assurance process critical path for ILS, including Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Supportability and Life-cycle Costs.
• Knowledge and thorough understanding of SANDF operational logistics.
• Knowledge of the applicable MIL-standards (South Africa and International) related to logistics engineering, project management, the environment and management systems for:
o Development Engineering;
o Supply, Deployment and transition; and
o Operational support.
• Experience in a R&D engineering environment working on large, multi-disciplinary projects, specifically in ILS engineering.
• Skills required:
o Capability to assimilate logistics requirements, principles and supportability status generally for any engineering, system or user domain.
o Able to apply a tailored approach to defining and executing ILS engineering activities on all departmental projects.
o Structured, systematic, analytical approach to problem-solving.
o Internal and external communication, liaison capabilities.
o Results orientation, with the ability to coordinate task resources and to proactively pursue achievement of specified task objectives.

Responsibilities
• Strategically manage the ILS engineering capability within the context of the entire Department.
• Build a strategic, integrated systems assurance and life-cycle support capability in collaboration with the ILS engineering, design engineering and customer support functions to maintain the Department’s credibility as an organisation and to deliver competitive, long-term, dependable and sustainable systems solutions.
• Ensure effective management and improvement of ILS engineering processes and policies for Department and external projects.
• Maintain a high level of interaction with existing clients to identify trends, business opportunities and responding to problems.
• Market Department capabilities to new and existing clients to stimulate new business opportunities.
• Provide Department support to acquisition projects for the generation of systems level logistics engineering outputs (e.g. establishing FURS / LURS, front-end analysis, system-level RMS design input, support concept definition, total ownership cost / Life-cycle Cost analysis, spares scaling and analysis, modelling/optimisation analysis, etc.).
• Analyse customer ILS problems, define ILS needs, and consequently define ILS solutions (including systems) to satisfy client requirements.
• Provide technical support data development, including: technical description of support procedures and activities, and give input to the support tasks and elements requirements analysis.
• Develop and present technical reports.
