Process Plant Manager


1. PURPOSE OF POSITION

Primary role is to provide leadership as a member of the factory leadership team and to assure day-to-day production requirements are met through the leadership of operating teams, as well as ensuring that Financial and other KPIs are achieved and improvement plans are in place.

This position typically manages all operations areas in a factory, or in some cases one of the key areas such as the Packaging department, the Processing and crushing operations. It is responsible for excellent customer service while minimizing inventory levels, achieving expected quality, area safety, performance management, talent development and training, product cost control, and product cost reductions through squeeze and X-trim projects while also providing for long term business improvement.
2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manufacturing
? Accountable for all Manufacturing activities, including operations, crushing, materials quality, engineering, and processes function.
? Accountable for meeting all required business goals and objectives (tactical & strategic)
? Ensure that OEE is maintained and improvement plans are in place
? Ensure effective waste reduction plan is in place

Safety/Regulatory/Environmental
? Accountable for Health and Safety of all Manufacturing employees
? Accountable to ensure that Manufacturing meets all required local Regulations
? Accountable for Risk Management for the site

Product Quality
? Accountable for the quality of product produced on site by ensuring compliance with all applicable Policies, Quality System Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions

Customer Service
? Ensure that factory operations achieve output plans with high levels of scheduled output performance in order to ensure that all markets achieve required customer service
? Accountable for the efficient delivery of crushing and processing and finished goods to the appropriate Logistics Centre as well as sufficient inventory/stock coverage to manage customer demands down-stream in the supply-chain

Support Growth
? Accountable for manufacturing NPD and EPD to the agreed timelines and costs

Total Cost
? Accountable for developing, in cooperation with the Management Team, and meeting all budgets
? Accountable for Strategic Planning to continually improve the Cost of Goods and Operation
? Ensuring continuous improvement in operations is achieved with improving KPIs
? Ensuring effective cost reduction with Squeeze and X-Trim programs

People Development
? Accountable for Global Supply Talent Development, with the objective to ensure that High Potential employees are given the appropriate assignments and roles to optimize their development in Supply (not limited to Manufacturing). This will be managed through the efficient use of tools such as, Manpower planning, Monitor, Succession Planning, Graduate Recruitment and so on and by working in close cooperation with Regional, Global Supply and HR
? Accountable for ensuring all Manufacturing employees are sufficiently trained to complete required work in a safe and competent manner

Internal: QA, NPD/EPD, Supply Packaging, Engineering, HSE, Site Services, Team Leaders,
Logistics – Planners, Stores, Distribution Warehouse, SSG, Procurement, Marketing, Sales,

4. MAJOR CHALLENGES AND PROBLEM SOLVING

? Maintaining compliance of the Plant with Global and local and regulatory standards.
? Resolving on-line issues regarding quality to the point of stopping production operation and restraining stock
? Ensuring GMP and Quality standards are complied with by all operators and staff
? Planning production to ensure customer service levels, PFR and OFR targets are not compromised
? Continuously reduce complexity and improve OEE and quality standards.
? Identifying and highlighting any GMP / product quality risks to the business.
? Manage, motivate and support subordinates in meeting personal and business objectives
? Communicating with QA on quality issues
? Follows-up on corrective and preventative actions by managing all audit findings to ensure closure.
? Support the business culture through demonstration and living the vision and values.
? Constructively challenge proposed business initiatives if quality /GMP risks are identified


5. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

EDUCATION

- Degree in Production Management/Operations Management/ Engineering
- At least 7 -10 management years experience min. of working in similar capacity and able to
manage a plant, manufacturing (production, crushing, processing and packaging of company
household products.
- Sound technical background and competence in understanding production processes and
systems and their impact on product quality.
- Production planning / scheduling expertise
- Analytical evaluation and problem solving techniques.
- Strong ability to introduce new ideas and concepts for Continuous improvement
- Sound Project Management skills
- 5-7 Years in a managerial position
- Validation of plants, equipment, computers and processes

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
1. Experience in managing a Processing Plant is essential
2. Primarily a detailed but broad knowledge of all aspects relating to the production and packaging of household products. The job holder is expected to understand and act on implications which may not be apparent to those without the expertise.
3. Must be up to date at all times regarding knowledge of GMP and Regulatory requirements.
4. Sound knowledge of packaging analysis / evaluation and in-process requirements / controls within all aspects of manufacturing and production.
