Production Automation Development Manager (AA Only)

Main Purpose
• To deliver innovative production automation and general equipment engineering solutions in line with strategic objectives, to effectively manage production automation solution delivery and to establish a production automation strategy.

Job Objectives
• To co-create and implement the production automation and general equipment engineering strategy aligned to operational and transnational strategy.
• To develop and/or solution craft innovative technical and commercial production automation and engineering solutions (hardware and software) in order to improve productivity, reduce cycle-time, and total time from produce to order.
• To drive and implement rigorous quality standards for all aspects of the production related engineering innovation automation delivery from initial concept to final commissioning and handover.
• To effectively manage the production automation engineering resources, or sub-contracted resources (vendor management), to deliver complex multiple projects on time, to budget and ensure compliance to all quality and safety standards.
• To recommend best practice changes, adjustments or working practices to production automation in order to make it more efficient, cost effective, desirable or innovative (continuous improvement).
• To define and document the new production automation processes and methods necessary to produce a given product, including converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished products.
• To ensure quality of the deliverables for the projects, and to produce functional and software design specifications.
• To keep up to date with current and developing trends in the mechatronics, (production) automation industry and general plant equipment technology, at a national and international level, and to continuously build on competence and knowledge.
• To manage all aspects of human capital through the HR value chain and in accordance to legislation.
• To ensure that all the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, Explosives Act, International and National requirements, as well as customer regulatory requirements are met during production automation projects and on site thus ensuring effective management of SHERQ and adherence to stipulated disciplines for continuous improvement of occupational Safety, Health, Environment and Quality factors that impact on any organisation.

Job Specific Requirements

Job Knowledge:
• Good understanding about production engineering solutions in the commercial explosives industry
• Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
• Contractual and commercial awareness
• Working knowledge of engineering best practice, principles and performance standards
• Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
• Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
• Deep understanding of the performance analysis of complex machines
• Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Knowledge of manufacturing/production methods and procedures
• Knowledge of best practice process improvement methods
• Computers and electronics - Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Working knowledge of SHERQ
• Knowledge of global explosives products, equipment, and services
• Knowledge of Quality Management
• Knowledge of Project Management principles and methodology
• Knowledge of design and visualisation software (i.e. AutoCAD)

Job Experience:
• 3 years' of senior automation experience
• 8 years' of senior project engineering experience
• 5 years' of leadership experience
• 5 years' exposure working within a manufacturing/production environment
• Experience of implementing automation solutions and writing software code
• Proven experience in risk management and mitigation
• Proven project management experience
• Experience in change management
• Demonstrated experience of continuous improvement
• Experience in leading and motivating multi-disciplinary teams to achieve a common goal
• Proven experience in providing advisory services to stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes

Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or relevant degree
• Project Management Certification
• Evidence of continuous professional development
