Main Purpose
• To effectively deliver innovative production automation solutions in line with strategic objectives.

Job Objectives
• To assist with developing and/or solution crafting innovative technical, production automation and engineering solutions (hardware and software) in order to improve productivity, reduce cycle-time, and total time from produce to order.
• To implement rigorous quality standards for all aspects of the technical, production automation and engineering solution delivery from initial concept to final commissioning and handover.
• To assist with the effective management of the technical, production automation and engineering solution resources, or sub-contracted resources (vendor management), to deliver complex multiple projects on time, to budget and ensure compliance to all quality and safety standards.
• To recommend best practice changes, adjustments or working practices to technical, production automation and engineering solutions in order to make it more efficient, cost effective, desirable or innovative (continuous improvement).
• To define and document the new technical, production automation and engineering solutions processes and methods necessary to produce a given product, including converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished products.
• To ensure quality of the deliverables for the projects, and to produce functional and software design specifications.
• To keep up to date with current and developing trends in the mechatronics and (production) automation industry, at a national and international level, and to continuously build on competence and knowledge.
• To effectively support ongoing automation projects, and to commission automation production plants.
• To effectively execute all programming protocol of automated equipment.
• To ensure that all the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, Explosives Act, International and National requirements, as well as customer regulatory requirements are met during production automation projects and on site thus ensuring effective management of SHERQ and adherence to stipulated disciplines for continuous improvement of occupational Safety, Health, Environment and Quality factors that impact on any organisation.


Job Specific Requirements

Job Knowledge:
• Good understanding about production solutions in the mining explosives industry
• Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
• Contractual and commercial awareness
• Working knowledge of engineering best practice, principles and performance standards
• Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
• Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
• Deep understanding of the performance analysis of complex machines
• Mechanical and Electrical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Knowledge of manufacturing/production methods and procedures
• Knowledge of best practice process improvement methods
• Computers and electronics - Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Working knowledge of SHERQ
• Knowledge of global explosives products, equipment, and services
• Knowledge of Quality Management
• Knowledge of Project Management principles and methodology
• Knowledge of design and visualisation software (i.e. AutoCAD)

Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering or relevant degree
• Project Management Certification
• Evidence of continuous professional development
