A large International Construction/Materials Supply company operating throughout South Africa & Africa is looking for suitably qualified Factory/Production Manager with a sound knowledge of manufacturing and Production of Bitumen Binders/Asphalt products.

Job Title : Factory/Production Manager
Branch/Division : Durban Branch


PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Incumbent is overall responsible for the management of the Factory, ensuring effective manufacturing and delivery of products in compliance with Company specifications and customer requirements.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The incumbent reports directly to the Branch Manager.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

- A tertiary qualification in Production Management/ Chemical Engineering/, Electrical/Mechanical – or Industrial Engineering preferable/alternatively experience in a relevant environment
- Previous working experience with - and knowledge of bitumen products highly preferable
- Approximately 3- 5 years’ proven Production experience at a managerial level preferable
- Proven track record of inventory control
- Proven track record of effective staff management
- Experience in managing production costs and efficiencies
- Computer Literacy – MS Office – advanced user

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS & SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS

• In charge of the complete maintenance of the Factory and the Equipment therein.
• Ensuring that all products manufactured and supplied to customers, and work undertaken for them, comply with SABS and ISO 9000 requirements as well as adherence to current formulations.
• Production planning according to laid down requirements and maintaining cost effectiveness.
• The forecasting, planning, ordering and control of Stocks and their required levels, and the timeous taking and Balancing of month end Inventories, ensuring the adherence to laid down deadlines.
• The timely and cost effective planning and scheduling of the transport of all Raw Materials and manufactured products in liaison with the respective Managers.
• Providing Supervisors and Employees with all relevant information at the commencement of each job.
• Good Housekeeping and maintaining an effective workplace for all.

2. LOGISTICS/TRANSPORT

• The planning of logistics resources involving all operational staff to ensure that the most cost effective results are achieved in order to meet customer requirements.
• The liaising with all transport subcontractors with regard to the operational activities.
• The communication and liaising with all respective Managers and Drivers on the minimizing of Vehicle costs.
• Ensuring that the appearance of the fleet conforms to the Company standard and image.
• The follow up of all customer queries, quotes and complaints according to the Quality Management system.
• The conducting of routine site inspections

3 HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

The Management of all Factory staff that includes the following:

• The Management, application and control of the Short Time, Inclement Weather clauses and Overtime, adhering to the guidelines and policies as laid down.
• The control and Management of staff discipline and the adherence to the Company’s Policy and Procedures on such matters and the issuing where necessary the relevant documents.
• Ensuring that the climate within the branch leads to effective communications and harmonious working relationships.
• The training, development and motivation of staff to achieve operational effectiveness and management succession.

4. ADMINISTRATION

• The daily update executed either manually or through the Company’s accounting system on the following:

Sales Book
Volumes, Revenues and Expenses
Receipts and Production records
Stock Cards

• The control on an ongoing basis of all relevant costs measured against standard budgets, including but not limited to fuel consumptions, spares, consumables, overtimes etc.

• The timeous reporting to the relevant Manager on:

Production information
Quality and HSE

• The establishment of pre-formatted invoices.
• Assistance with Tenders, Quotations and Budgets.
• The analysis and explanation of all monthly Management Account variances.
• The Management of all claims emanating from customers in conjunction with other Managers.
5. HSE

• As the Health, Safety and Environmental Administrator, it is your responsibility that you adhere to the guidelines as accepted and acknowledged by you. (Copy attached hereto)
• The upkeep and control of the Quality Management System.
