National group are looking for an Operations Manager to ensure that you are responsible for the overall effective and efficient conversion of raw materials to finished goods.

CRITICAL FACTORS:

• Be responsible for site safety and security
• Be responsible for production manufacturing
• Be responsible for all infrastructure and maintenance thereof
• Mould Care
• Understand Concrete
• Payroll
• Measure and report on all key information required

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Develop and care for staff

a. Agree a suitable staffing structure with CEO.
b. Ensure that each position has a job description.
c. Each position must know their JD thoroughly and sign for it.
d. File a signed copy on their staff file.
e. Every area person employed must have a full day’s work every day that achieves what is required in his JD.
f. All disciplinary procedures must be strictly enforced and reduced to writing.
g. Responsible for hiring and firing staff.
h. Staff must sign for their PPE in a control log. If PPE goes missing, they must receive a warning and pay for the replacement.
i. Staff must receive training for their jobs as well as safety and training required by law where applicable.

2. Be responsible for site safety and security

a. Assess safety risks.
b. Work according to OSH Act.
c. Hold regular meetings with safety Reps.
d. Investigate causes of injuries and suggest preventative measures.
e. Implement measures approved above.
f. Have a security plan and implement it.

3. Be responsible for production manufacturing

a. Mixing capacity.
b. Moulds, concrete volume per mould, moulds per shelf.
c. Understand curing times, curing capacity, and all issues that affect curing time and curing as regards quality.
d. Demoulding times and need for undercover post curing of tiles and flagstones.
e. Ensure required resources are available and use of resources is optimised
e1. Responsible for placing of orders to ensure aggregates, cement, oxides, additives and water required for the shift are available.
e2. Ensure shift is properly staffed, and re-allocate staff to cover absenteeism.
e3. Ensure moulds required for shift are available and clean.
f. Receiving of raw materials and checking quality of material.
g. Monitor and report on quality and colour of finished products.
h. Assist in weekly production planning with sales team.
I. Reporting all breakdown to Maintenance manager.

4. Be responsible for all infrastructure and maintenance thereof
a. Maintain a full index and content of all relevant equipment manuals, drawing and standards.
b. Implement a preventative maintenance program based on original design.
c. Have, update and file all Infrastructure drawings and layouts.
d. Perform maintenance and breakdown maintenance as required.
e. Keep property clear of alien vegetation.
f. Keep water drainage systems functioning to design.

5. Mould care
a. Maintain an accurate mould count of all moulds in production.
b. Ensure moulds are in good working condition, remove and report defective moulds.
c. Ensure moulds are cleaned as required.
d. Ensure that moulds are correctly oiled.
e. Ensure that all products are demoulded at the end of each week, so that no product remains in the moulds over the weekend.

6. Understand concrete

a. The basics of density.
b. Water to cement ratios.
c. Initial set.
d. Cube tests.
e. Slump.
f. Temperature changes while curing.
g. Available additives and their effects.

7. Payroll
a. Clocking must be checked and signed off by you.
b. Calculate hours worked.
c. Maintain staff files.
d. Liaising with Union reps and staff.

8. Measure and report on all key information required

a. Absenteeism.
b. Disciplinary actions.
c. Injuries.
d. Fuel control and consumption in l/hr.
e. Waste of all RM’s.
f. Quality problems and corrective action taken.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Technical qualification or trade test or tertiary qualfication
2. 10 years + experience as an Operations Manager or General Manager in a production or manufacturing enviroment
