I am looking for a PRODUCTION PLANNER to join this retail group based in Cape Town. The position will be based in Durban and the successful candidate will have a high level of experience within a clothing/textile manufacturing environment.
Please find listed below some of the important factors for this position:-
Existing relationships with local suppliers including Mauritius, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe etc.
Knowledge and experience in garment construction and fabrication
Ability to meet deadlines
Able to negotiate price and identify what is a good cost price for items
Able to identify when a factory is running at full capacity and pre-empt any possible pitfalls in production
Merchandising experience will be a benefit
Highly experienced with regards to the processes/cycles within a factory
Keep costs as low as possible and ensure that there is no lost time with regards to delivery
There will be a lot of local travel every week :-
Visits to each factory at least twice a week
Some factories in Durban
Others in Qwa Qwa and Lesotho
2 days visiting the Durban based factories
Friday – admin day in Durban
Individual to see Central Buying Manager every second week, once role is set up this will change to a monthly visit
Communication:-
Weekly updates to Central Buying Manager on each factory’s status:-
Which factory is best to execute which product
Status of the orders at each factory at any point in time
Highlight any delays or issues in the production of the orders
Quick Response: Advise on factories that will be best suited to Quick Response orders
Will they be able to adequately execute it timeously (taking into account fabrics, abilities etc.?)
Process Flow:-
Central Buying Manager to approach Buying Managers asking what orders they want to place with a specific local supplier
Buyers to tender with the suppliers
Once booking is confirmed, the Central Buying Manager to liaise with the Production Planner to ensure that there is enough production space booked timeously
