My client in Sandton is looking for a Programme Manager to work on one of their major clients in Johannesburg.  The department will be responsible for developing and delivering applications to the market ensuring the applications are of quality, delivered in a timely manner, and are market ready software. You will be utilizing a team of Project Managers, Developers, and QA staff to support the needs of the business.  Their goal is to ensure priorities are understood and followed for all development activities. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Overall responsibility for the implementation and management of the Developmnet and QA from a functional, quality, and timeliness perspective.
  • To work with their team ensuring the projects are correctly evaluated and scoped from both a technical and commercial stand point.
  • Understand the financial aspects of the project i.e top line, bottom line, assess risks etc
  • To provide regular information to client regarding the project.
  • To handle all development needs, from tactical to strategic projects
  • To work with the project managers to ensure that all individual projects are appropriately supported and fully completed on time.  Ensure proper software development life cycle is deployed in the correct way for all projects.
  • To handle all team development needs, from training, to additional resources, to re-allocation of resources with the development and QA teams, as needed. 
  • To evolve the team strategically into a more services delivery organisation
  • To motivate all staff employees, through communication and awareness of project needs.

Knowledge and Experience:


  • Degree level education required.
  • At least 10 years experience working with technology in medium and large companies
  • At least 5 years experience in delivery software solutions ideally in the EPOS / EFT POS arena.
  • Knowledge of working in a Java and mobile application development environment is an advantage
  • At least 5 years experience in managing complex projects
  • At least 10 years experience in software development and architectural product design.
  • A proven track record in managing development teams, all disciplines including Project Management, Business Analyst, Programming and QA.
  • Good working knowledge of development strategies, project management and business and technical consultancy.
  • Previous management experience required. A record of large team management with proven motivational strategies required.

Skills / Abilities:


  • Ability to balance conflicting resource demands and internal pressures with focus towards business priorities
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, for internal and external customers a must.
  • Proven track record for strong problem resolution techniques, ability to find solutions.
  • Must be able to fully understand a customer’s business and appreciate the commercial implications of their teams’ (technical) activities.
  • Management of teams required, at least 5 years experience in this area required.
  • Ability to adapt, learn and continue to expand in company product and system knowledge.
