PROGRAMME OFFICER: FET SCIENCES; TECHNOLOGY &TECH SCIENCES
(5 year fixed term contract)

Job Purpose
To coordinate, administrate, implement and monitor subject specific teacher development and learner projects, events, activities in Gauteng province and at Sci-Bono. That contains the following:

1. Physical Sciences
2. Physical Sciences: Community Education & Training
3. Life Sciences
4. Life Sciences: Community Education & Training
5. Agricultural Sciences
6. FET Technical – Civil; Electrical ; Mechanical and Technical Science

Key Responsibilities:
1. Implements the MST- GDE education programmes as listed above that focuses on (a) MST Teaching and Learning (b) MST Resources (c) Materials Development and (d) Monitoring & Evaluation activities
2. Develops, aligns, quality assures and gives advice on the teaching and learning resources.
3. Provide direct support for the development of teaching and learning support materials with exemplars of assessment activities, e.g NSC; PAT & SACMEQ
4. To procure for the service/s that are required in projects.
5. To recruit, train and place lead teachers in their respective training venues in Gauteng.
6. Monitoring the implementation of the projects and allocated budget.
7. Collects the pre & post-tests data, analyse and report on the specified performance indicators as required by the department of policy & planning.
8. To implement and document the processes and systems needed to make the programme run effectively and conducting the Monitoring & Evaluation of projects.
9. Supports the establishment and sustenance of appropriate systems, structures, mechanisms, processes and procedure to facilitate the development support and maintenance of the projects.
10. Supports, maintain, and update information requirements for the purpose of review and reporting, including qualitative data.
11. Consult with the Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Technical Sciences and Agricultural Sciences coordinators at GDE Head Office on the planned teaching and learning programmes.
12. Assist the GET Project Manager in collecting and analysing the IQMS reports of FET Sciences & FET Technology teachers.
13. Attend and participate in the Provincial Curriculum Information Forums.
14. Ensures that all FET Sciences, Technical Science & FET Technology training packs gets SACE endorsement.
15. Administer the PDP scores after each training and direct them to SACE.
16. Assist in the professional development of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Technical sciences and FET Technology and provide ongoing support on the implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) in Gauteng Province.
17. Managing ± 80 Part time trainers

Minimum requirements:
Education
• An education appropriate Bachelor’s degree in Science education or equivalent qualifications backed with 3 years teaching experience. FET Science Education is compulsory.
• A sound knowledge of all major relevant education legislation and policies, particularly those having a direct impact on curriculum, teacher development and assessment.
• Project management –NQF5 will be an added advantage

Experience
• 3 years’ experience in teaching FET Physical Sciences- compulsory
• 3 years’ experience in Science Education programmes/ projects
• Have at least 3 years’ experience as an HOD in Sciences- added advantage
• 1 year experience in Materials Development- added advantage


Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioral attributes)
Knowledge / Skills
• Intense knowledge in Physical Sciences and understanding of ICT in Science education
• Good inter-personal relations.
• Problem solving.
• Self-disciplined, work overtime and under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Recruitment and training of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and FET Technology lead teachers.
• Strong analytical and advanced computer skills.
• Data mining, handling knowledge and research on the latest developments related to curriculum.
• Teacher training
• Valid driver’s license- compulsory
