Programmes Officer: FET Sciences
Job Purpose
To coordinate, administrate, implement and monitor subject specific teacher development projects, events, activities in Gauteng province and at Sci-Bono. That contains the following:
1. Physical Science - FET
2. Physical Sciences: Community Education & Training
3. Technical Science - FET
4. Life Science - FET
5. Life Science: Community Education & Training
6. Agricultural Science - FET
7. Agricultural Science: Community Education & Training
8. Community Education & Training
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordination and administration of MST- GDE education programmes as listed above and Implementation & roll out of MST strategy that focuses on (a) MST Teaching (b) MST Resources.
• To develop, align and quality assures and gives advice on the training manuals and other MST Resources
• Provide support for the development of teaching and learning support materials with exemplars of assessment activities, e.g. NSC & PAT.
• To procure for the service/s that are required in projects.
• To recruit, train and place Master Training in their respective training venues in Gauteng.
• Liaison with GDE, head office and district officials for curriculum coordination and alignment.
• Monitoring the implementation of the projects and allocated budget.
• To implement and document the processes and systems needed to make the programme run effectively and conducting the monitoring & evaluation of projects.
• Supports the establishment and sustenance of appropriate systems, structures, mechanisms, processes and procedures to facilitate the development support and maintenance of projects.
• Supports and maintain update information requirements for the purpose of review and reporting, including qualitative data.
• Consult with the Physical Science, Life Science, Technical Science and Agricultural Science at GDE head office on the planned development programmes.
• Engage in analyzing the IQMS reports of FET phase Sciences teachers and HODs in consultation with the Teacher Development and Curriculum directorates at Head Office and Districts and make recommendation for further improvement and development of Science Education.
• Implements the endorsement of all FET science and Technical Sciences training packs with SACE.
• Administer the PDP scores after each training and direct them to SACE.
• Assist in the professional development of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Technical sciences and provide ongoing support on the implementation of Professional learning Communities (PLC) in Gauteng Province
• Managing ± 50 part time trainers.

Minimum requirements:
1.1 Education
• An education appropriate bachelor’s degree in Science education or equivalent qualification backed with 5 years teaching experience. Mathematics Education would be an advantage.
• A sound knowledge of all major relevant education legislation and policies, particularly those having a direct impact on curriculum, teacher development and assessment.

1.2 Relevant work experience
• 5 years’ experience in teaching Physical Science-Compulsory
• 3 years’ experience in Science Education programmes/ projects
• Have at least 3 years’ experience as an HOD in science – added advantage

1.3 Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioral attributes)
• Intense Knowledge in Physical Sciences and understanding of ICT in Sciences education.
• Good Inter-personal relations.
• Problem Solving.
• Self- disciplined, work overtime and under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Recruitment and training of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Technical Sciences Master Trainers
• Project management - NQF5 will be an added advantage.
• Strong analytical and advanced computer skills.
• Data mining, handling knowledge and research on the latest developments related to curriculum.
• Teacher training
• Valid driver’s license
