Project Engineer / Project Manager – power plant (renewable energy)

Location: Johannesburg based - frequent business trips to Cape Town and occasionally to site.
Project duration: 27 months (as of end November 2015)

Our client is highly successful in the renewable energy space in South Africa and is an investor and will also be participating in this exciting EPC Joint Venture, to build a power plant, with a well-known South African Main Contractor.

As a skilled Engineer with solid experience in contract management and support of sub-contractors you would support the main contractor during the design phase, to properly identify the technical characteristics of all the major/most critical components of the power plant (pumps, fans, piping, water treatment plant, heat exchangers, and all the balance of plant equipment), to issue the proper RFQ, to technically negotiate with sub-vendors, up to the issuance of relevant purchase orders.

The candidate will also act, inside the EPC JV, as Deputy Project Manager representing the employer, working together with the EPC JV Senior Project Manager, representing the South African main contractor.

Your focus is to allow the Main Contractor to build the plant using the most suitable equipment to get the guaranteed plant performances.

An Engineering graduate (Mechanical preferred) the ideal candidate will offer:
• At least 10 years working experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager role
• Deep knowledge of power plants design characteristics/requirements
• Sound knowledge of power plants suppliers market
• CONTRACT MANAGEMENT skills/experience (main contracts, between final customer and EPC Contractor, and subcontracts, between EPC Contractor and suppliers)
• Strong leadership abilities and team building capabilities
• A flexible, dynamic approach and an understanding of human resource management
• The ability to work inside a multi-cultural organization (South African/European)
• Previous experience in design of power plants main components will be considered a plus;
