Project Engineer

A global engineering and construction contractor is looking for a Project Engineer (Gauteng). Minimum Qualifications and Experience: • Engineering degree • 5+ years’ petrochemical experience Requirements/Skills/Knowledge: • Registered with ECSA • Contract position Responsibilities: • Coordinate all engineering activities by planning and assigning project tasks to relevant staff and preparing project specifications, equipment list, requisition index, and vendor drawing index • Control progress by ensuring that engineering operations are completed in accordance with approved project schedules • Incorporate unforeseen deviations into the project schedules • Ensure that the engineering of the project uses the established procedures, specifications and design techniques and is in accordance with job specifications by: o Reviewing and approving line lists, equipment lists, flowsheets, plot plans, and specifications before release o Reviewing all piping layout drawings and model as they are being produced and liaison with the drawing office o Reviewing all isometrics, especially for alloy and lined piping and all critical lines • Assume technical responsibility for all equipment and subcontracts not assigned to specialist engineers by preparing requisitions and technical bid analyses and approving supplier drawings as necessary • Coordinate the Company/Client technical interface by obtaining data from Client and reviewing all drawings subject to Client approval before forwarding to Client • Maintain regular contact with Client engineering representative • Monitor engineering manhour expenditure and progress by reviewing designs to ensure that contractual requirements are met in the most economic manner and initiating corrective action where necessary • Ensure that both the Company and supplier drawings are available timely manner by co-ordination of procurement, drawing office and liaison with suppliers • Coordinate home office/site interface by maintaining regular contact with site, participating in commissioning activities as required and ensuring completion of as-built drawings • Implement compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues by providing necessary input to technical clerk • Recommend methods that may improve company procedure by keeping aware of technical development and feedback from Clients • Organise and conduct internal and external meetings when necessary in order to meet stated project objectives • Organise design safety reviews and implement findings by controlling engineering development • Identify contract changes and implement when approved • Create and maintain an environment in which a positive team spirit exists by ensuring realistic standards and open communication between the members of the project team • Deputise for Project Manager in his absence • Assume Project Manager's responsibilities for certain projects as may be assigned to him from time to time • Undertake other duties as may be assigned to him from time to time • Conduct and minute fortnightly engineering co-ordination and progress meetings • Review all equipment requisitions prior to Manager Engineering's signature
