Our client, a utility provider in St Helena is looking to employ a Project Manager for their renewable projects on a 2 year contract.

The primary purpose of the role is to deliver the capital program for electricity. There are a range of tasks required to achieve this. At a strategic level the Project Manager must work with the CEO to develop a long term plan pertaining to the electricity distribution network, diesel power generation and further investment in renewable technologies. At the other end of the spectrum is the hands on delivery of individual projects complete with documentation, reporting and the usual things associated with project management

Qualifications and experience required

Essential

This position requires an Electrical Engineer with a recognised degree and at least ten years post graduate experience. The post holder will need a strong engineering background, the ability to develop practical solutions in an environment with limited human and physical resources.
Management of the capital expenditure programme is a key output for the role and the post holder must have had demonstrable experience of the management of such a programme.
The Project Manager must have a good understanding of renewable energy technologies and their application.
A small island community creates a high degree of focus on even trivial matters and it is therefore essential that the post holder is able to communicate to the full range of people. On occasions the post holder will be required to appear on local radio or at public information meetings to report progress on capital works for example.

Desirable

Possession of a recognised Project Management qualification would be an advantage as would experience of project management in the renewable energy sector.
A working knowledge of electricity provision by diesel technologies, SCADA / PLC control systems, 11kV distribution systems, HV switching, remote communications & maintenance are all desirable in this role.
Life on a small island has unique challenges so experience of working in developing economies or in a small island environment would be an advantage.
Exposure to business planning, budget management and cost control will be advantageous.
Since the major capital works will be donor funded experience of donor budgetary and project management requirements would be an advantage
