Mainstream Renewable Power is a renewable energy development company with operations in North America, South America, South Africa, UK offshore and Germany offshore. Our core business is to develop, build and operate renewable energy plants thereby helping to build a sustainable future – globally and locally. We are seeking skilled and motivated individuals to join our South African Construction team.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the project management of projects through the pre-construction and construction phases to final handover of project to the companys Operations team.
During construction, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing Mainstreams Principle Contractors such as a Equipment supplier and Balance of Plant contractors and detailed coordination with the principle contractor’s sub-contractors.

The Project Manager key responsibilities comprise the following:
• Wind farm construction project management and construction management in accordance with Mainstreams Procurement and Project Delivery processes and procedures.
• Supporting Mainstreams development team with construction / engineering related issues.
• Engaging and managing technical and engineering consultants throughout the projects construction and preconstruction stages.
• Planning & coordination of the projects preliminary engineering during preconstruction phase
• Managing project through financial close process. Assuming the role of dedicated project point of contact for all Due Dilligence activities.
• Contract Procurment, structuring, negotiation and execution.
• Cost estimating, budget preparation, reporting and control for multi billion Rand infrastructure projects
• Schedule estimating and preparation, reporting and control
• Liaise and cooperate with other functional and regional teams within Mainstream- wind analysis, GIS, engineering, development, finance, and commerical.
• Liaise and cooperate with external parties – banks, investors, independent engineers, contractors, government bodies etc.
• Working with the the National Elect Utilities to develop transmission/distribution grid connection plans, supervise grid studies, secure grid connection agreements and ensure that the project is connected as per schedule.
• Significant autonomy in work, but a strong reporting and approval process using Mainstream’s Procurement and Project Delivery procedures and process (this is based on PMI® PMBOK®).
• Participate in company knowledge sharing groups which focus on sharing of expertise globally.
Business Management
• Assist the Programme Manager in the development of the regional strategy.
• Market awareness of renewable energy construction activity, regulatory issues and other renewable technologies.

Education and Experience

• Degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical or civil), with a minimum of 5 years work experience
• Commercial project development and construction experience in renewable energy / power generation.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Renewable Energy Projects core work streams and interdependencies namely: Civil/Electrical Design, Eskom IPP Grid Connection Processes, SCADA design interface & implementation, South African Grid Code Complaince, Abnormal load transport logistics, H&S best practicee for the Wind Industry.
• Strong project management skill set required including contract interface management, contract administration, scheduling, planning, financial control and management
• Excellent writing and oral communications skills
• Candidates should be comfortable presenting to management at all levels
• Candidates should be capable of managing a team of internal and external technical resources as a when required.
• Ability to use Microsoft software as well as specialist software packages such as GIS, AutoCAD, MS Project and SharePoint
• Fluency in English; fluency in other languages is considered an advantage
• Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Certification as a Professional Construction Project Manger (PrCPM) with SACPCMP an advantage

Accountabilities

• Project safety – be the safety leader implementing and enforcing Mainstream’s SHEQ processes and procedures
• Monitor daily activities at the construction sites, using this data to trend and develop detailed forecasts and ensure that corrective actions are done timely
• Overall project leadership through the relationship with your contractors and consultants

Location
• The position will be based in South Africa in Mainstream’s Cape Town Office with intermittent travel to the project sites.
