PROJECT PLANNER – Power Installation - KZN

Fixed Term Contract for 1 Year (year-to-year contract for 3 years)

Applicants must stay in the KZN area

Application Criteria:

• Std 10 / N3 2 Years contracting civil installation
• Microsoft projects programming
• Qualified artisan with at least 1 year’s cable installation experience will be beneficial
• Project Management Diploma will be beneficial

Computer Literacy & Language Proficiency:
• Experience in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel
• Experience in Microsoft Projects
• Must be fluent in English and Afrikaans
• Must be capable of report writing in English


Key Performance Areas:
1. Administration:
• In conjunction with the Ops Manager/s and Project Managers or Construction Supts, generate all Power Installation project plans for new projects professionally and in detail, in-line with customer standards and expectations using MS Project software.
• Monitor, organize, update and track all PI Projects and report to Operations Manager/s any deviations on the plan.
• In conjunction with Contracts Administrators & Project Managers, plan and ensure timeous ordering of materials including cables, accessories and other related materials in-line with the various project time lines and track daily on a tracking sheet using separate MS Project plans.
• Take actions by reporting deviations from the project plans that may impact planned on-time delivery and/or costs and propose alternatives to meet deadlines and/or optimise costs.
• Make recommendations for material inter-changeability and stock handling across projects as well as resources (people and equipment) in order to realize project time lines or to improve.
• Prepare Maintenance standby list and maintain.
• Assist Contract Administrators with the analysis and compilation of Major Tenders, contracts and quotations as a when required.
• Identify tenders and quotations and other business opportunities by active tracking of the various customer websites and internet adverts.
• Plan tender and quotations activities and allocate resources, including site meeting attendance, to ensure timeous tender completion and submission.
• Involvement with All contract related documentation (excluding invoicing unless required).

2. Team creation and development:
• Motivate subordinates through participation in decisions and communication regarding matters that concern them.
• Mentor and train appropriate subordinates and colleagues incl. Project Managers in Project plan updating and tracking.

3. Quality:
• Encourage quality awareness for work among the personnel in the section with appropriate instructions, communications and training in accordance with procedure.
• Continuously monitor the quality of processes and systems by means of analysis and initiate and verify corrective and preventative action if required.
• Implement documentation of the quality management system within scope of control.

4. Safety, Health and Environment:
• Direct the work force in safe working practices and housekeeping as laid down in the Construction Regulations code of practice, the OHS Act and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Continuously upgrade subordinates safety, health and environmental awareness and competence through training as per the training procedure.
• Investigate safety, health and environmental related issues in terms of the NOSA MBO code and ISO 14001 to prevent future accidents / incidents.
• Implement the documentation of the Environmental management system scope of control.

5. Budget:
• Assists in and provides input for the contract expense budget and ensure that expenses are within agreed tolerance limits of budget.
• In conjunction with the Operations Manager/s, Project Managers, Contracts Administrators, derive, monitor and track cash flow plans and manage all project costs in-line with tendered NAV’s and report any deviations.
• Manage and control of PI stock in PI stores and maintain low stock value.
• Derive accurate cash flow plans from the project plans in conjunction with Ops Manager/s, Project Managers, and Contracts Administrators as per tendered values, costs & NAV’s.
• Weekly internal cost control is essential.
• Prepare time sheets and overtime requests, monitor and track costs.
• Generate overtime graphs for HR and manage costs.
• Monitor, track and manage PI vehicle fleet movements and associated costs.
• Continuously control material wastage, scrap and assets and reduce cost by implementing cost cutting techniques.
• Monitor, track and control performance and costs of sub-contractors.

6. Communication skills:
• Complete all relevant documentation.
• Liase with head office with regard to site operations.
• Report writing.
• Necessary health and safety.

7. General:
• This job description serves as the minimum indicator of work expected to be performed by a Project Planner for Power Installations.
