PUBLIC EDUCATION SPECIALIST (R584K CTC)

Qualifications/ Experience Required:

• A three year degree qualification in Education, Adult Education/Training or Public Administration
• A minimum of 4-6 years working experience in the education, NGOs and legislative environment and have knowledge and understanding on how government functions
• Research experience

Purpose:
To develop a civic education curriculum, conceptualize, plan, budget and coordinate implementation of public education and civic education programmes in the ORGANISATION.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
KPA 1: Civic Education curriculum development
• Review and design civic education curriculum in the ORGANISATION;
• Identification of different modes or strategies for conducting public education;
• Development of curriculum for public outreach programmes;
• Facilitation of up-skilling with relevant skills required for public education;
• Conceptualize and design public education programmes;
• Conduct research, and provide support to formulation of civic education curriculum;
• Design and implement civic education activities;

KPA 2: Capacity building programme
• Assist in coordinating civic education and advocacy efforts in the respective geographic regions;
• Capacity development through training of partner staff to conduct civic education activities;
• Assist partner CSOs to develop and deliver civic education and advocacy with a wider cross section of target groups/communities;
• Support the participation of local communities and interest groups in the civic education groups through networking and advocacy;

KPA 3: Networking /Stakeholders
• Establish and maintain effective partnerships with the relevant stakeholders;
• Manage stakeholder expectations as required;
• Hold periodic meetings with Research and Committees to deal with identified pertinent issues in communities;
• Collaborate with local government public participation units in rolling out civic education to the people of Gauteng;
• Liaise and co-ordinate with offices of Speakers in municipalities to enhance public participation;
• Liaise and co-ordinate with PLOs on government izimbizos;
• Liaise and coordinate with the Parliament of South Africa on Youth Parliament, Women’s Parliament and the People’s Assembly;

KPA 4: Implementation of budget in line with the procurement policy
• Compliance to all financial management policies and related legislation that govern the work of the ORGANISATION;
• Identify and manage all risks related to public education, administration and operations.

KPA 5: Management of Human Capital and Administration
• Manage, develop and mentor staff in a manner that promotes: efficient and cost-effective content development, innovation, collaboration and excellence;
• Identify areas of professional development and attend training as provided.
