Our client, the leading producer, packaging and distributer of fresh produce for the retail market operating according to the most stringent quality standards regarding the below products include but are not limited to:

Lettuces – various kinds and varieties, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Peppers – variety, Tomatoes,
Rosa tomatoes, Spinach – Swiss chard, young and Baby spinach, Chillies – variety, Herbs eg. Basil
Carrots etc.

Are seeking a Quality Assurance Manager who will be responsible for total quality management and quality assurance for the growing and a pack house consisting of low care, medium care and high care facilities. Quality standards are regulated by IBL audits, Farming For the Future (FFF), HACCP, ISO 22000, Global GAP and Sedex ethical audits. The quality manager has to ensure that the organisation remains accredited and are constantly prepared to pass any audit.

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED:

Driver's licence and own vehicle
A relevant tertiary qualification is required
Preferably 5 years industry related experience in a similar post
Extensive SHE knowledge and experience
Management of self and sound interpersonal skills

Job Duties:

Good Manufacturing Practices
Maintain procedures relating to food safety, hygiene, shelf life, visual appearance of produce
and presentation on the shelf
Hygiene of employees, visitors and contractors and hygiene audits.
Cold chain disciplines
Cleaning procedures and standards
Rodent, insect, bird, foreign body and glass control
Train employees in GMP’s.
Product flows including QC checks
Correct start-up, lunch time and shutdown procedures
Post-harvest chemicals/ treatments.

Management of people:

Management of people in line with company procedures and legal prescribes.
Setting, monitoring and ensuring meeting of targets.
Managing of overtime, leave and sick leave to ensure legal compliance.

Quality Assurance:

Intake-, On-line- and dispatch QA , Shelf life samples, Store visits to check quality and
traceability

Audits:

Customer Food Safety and Hygiene, Global GAP, ISO 22 000, Sedex, HACCP, FFF etc.
Traceability- Nursery, through farm to container tags through to final product. Including packaging
Ethical audits
All IBL audits (1 day, 2 day and ethical)

Maintenance:

Planned maintenance program, supervising repairs and maintenance
Refrigeration, Low Risk, High Risk, vacuum cooler
Lights
Clean water
Waste water
Packing lines, conveyors and structures
Building structure & fabric
Generator
Ablutions
Truck and truck refrigeration services and maintenance

Waste disposal:

Solids and wash water

Interfacing with customers:

Customer complaints: investigate and reply to customers
Trending: Manage the system that keeps record of all customer complaints, RTM’s and other quality related complaints, and analyse to show trends.
Take corrective actions to minimise complaints.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stock control – accurate stock counts, neat, logical and tidy storage of:
Packaging material (In Quality Store)
Chemicals
Labeling material
Client promotions
Liaison with major retail customer distribution centres regarding offloading slots, equipment and equipment counts.
Ensuring that loads depart on time.
Servicing of and communication to various customers
Supervise drivers

Package: Market related TCTC commensurate with experience and qualifications.
