Quality Improvement Advisor Psychosocial – Adolescent

SM Healthcare Placements is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of NGO Quality Improvement Advisor Psychosocial – Adolescent based in Klerksdorp North West for an exciting role within an International NGO in the health care field.

To improve the physical and psychosocial health of adolescents through supporting linkages and referrals
between clinics, schools and community structures and strengthening clinic and school based health services.

Education, Training and Experience

• Degree in Social Science/ Psychology with advanced counselling certificate, HIV Management
• Certificate (basic), competent in MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within or supporting the public health sector with 2 years’
experience working with HIV positive adolescents.
• Experience in therapeutic counselling and support group facilitation
• Good interpersonal skills, multiple SA languages (appropriate for area) and excellent levels of written
and verbal communication.
• The ability to read graphs, interpret data and have some experience of quality improvement processes
(QIPs) would be advantageous.
• Training and mentoring experience to DOH facility staff would be advantageous as well as the ability to
facilitate presentations and training.
• Knowledge and work experience of the psychosocial areas for adolescent disclosure, adherence, HCT
and support groups is most desirable.
Key performance areas

• Strengthening the tiers of PHC re-engineering
• Identify areas in the relevant health care system that need to be strengthened to ensure effective
• implementation of the adolescent programme
• Identify community structures to provide continuous support to HIV positive adolescents
• Strengthen linkages and referrals between clinics, schools and community structures
• Implement a system that will ensure adequate and appropriate referral and follow up between the
school and clinic
• Support the implementation of the Integrated Schools Health Policy (ISHP)
• Assist is setting up Youth Friendly Service programmes (YFS), including AYFS assessments and
tracking of facility progress towards AYFS goals.
• Training and Skills Transfer
• Identify Psychosocial training needs of external stakeholders (DoH, DOBE)
• Refer identified needs to the relevant training department and provide support during training as required
• Support the implementation of in-service training and mentoring to address identified gaps.
• Train, mentor and support clinics to implement psychosocial support groups for HIV positive adolescents
within clinics and communities.
• Contribute to the compilation of relevant IEC material for adolescents as needed.
• Provide support to peer educators, community health care workers and other counsellors regarding
counselling guidelines, wellness programmes and support groups as and when required.
• Implement approaches to improving retention in care, adherence and reducing loss to follow up of
adolescents in supported facilities.
• Support the development and implementation of QI projects in collaboration with DoH to address
identified gaps.
• Support the mentoring of DoH staff and stakeholders on QI methodologies.
• Reporting and Administration
• Compile reports of the relevant programme activities conducted
• Support the analysis of reports to identify gaps in the programme area
• Plan and coordinate meetings as required
• Assist with research related activities as and when required
