Our client in the La Mercy area is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor/Cost Engineer, manage all project costs relating to infrastructural, building, specialized and civil engineering projects, from the elementary costs estimates, casting of BOQ’s at tender stages to the final project costs. Minimise the costs of projects and ensure value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality with due consideration to statutory building and other regulations.

• Undertake costs estimates for new projects;
• Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the developer/ investor/ engineer;
• Accurately measure the amount of materials and manpower needed based on the technical specifications;
• Undertake costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work;
• Assist in establishing company requirements and undertake feasibility studies;
• Perform risk and value management and cost control;
• Assist in procurement strategy development and processes;
• Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks;
• Prepare and analyse costings for tenders;
• Assist in the implementation of enterprise development;
• Provide advice on contractual claims;
• Analyse outcomes and write detailed progress reports;
• Value completed work and arrange for payment and completion certificates for processing of payments;
• Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use;
• Understand the implications of health and safety regulations;
• Conduct and compile monthly reviews on projects and forecast final values for cost and completion dates.
• Prepare and report on project cost reports.

Measure, value, submit and negotiate contract variations


B Tech or BSc in Quantity Surveying or similar qualification;

Preference will be given to a registered, professional quantity surveyor;

Knowledge in Building Regulatory issues;

Knowledge of OSHA legislation and regulations and the impact on infrastructure and construction projects.

Knowledge of various forms of contracts (NEC, FIDIC, JBCC, GCC)

5 – 8 years’ experience in the quantity surveying/ cost engineering of which at least 2 years is at a management level;

Previous experience with cost estimation or similar software is essential;

MS Project and MS Office skills at an intermediate level is essential;

Knowledge of costing systems;

Good report writing skills and think clearly;

Ability to communicate with people at all levels;

Attention to detail and the ability to interrogate technical and numerical information;

Very good document management skills;

Excellent planning, time management and prioritisation skills;

Code EB licence and ability to drive company vehicles;
