QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Relevant tertiary education of a minimum of a 3 year diploma or degree in Food Technology or Food Science or Food & Nutrition or Food Consumer Science.
Be fluent in English with excellent report writing skills in English.
Have good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
Be meticulous and neat; show pride in your work and be thorough and accurate in every task you undertake.
Be willing to eat chillies, when required.
PURPOSE OF JOB
To manage the paperwork and the staff in the incoming RM (raw materials) laboratory of the company ensuring efficient and accurate analysis and approval or rejection of all incoming raw materials, marinades and packaging; and maintaining and improving on the relevant GLP documentation referenced in the incoming RM Laboratory.

Management of the functioning of Raw Materials quality control department:

Work individually and as a team with the RM QC Technician and student food technologist assigned, as well as with other technical staff.
Correspond with Purchasing department and Raw Materials Receiving Warehouse Manager telephonically and by e-mail.
Glp’s & laboratory systems
Supplier information
Regular internal meetings:
Training
Other:
Ensure that all internal audit findings and any other Non-conformances relating to the Raw Materials QC Laboratory are actioned as required within the time-frame set.
Report writing and testing for bench marking of new or replacement supplier samples. Inform the purchasing department in writing if the new raw material is accepted or rejected (with reasons and state applications variation if applicable).
Shelf life extension testing on expired raw materials compared to an unexpired control (including inspection of the condition of the RM packaging for signs of infestation or contamination).
Informing Technical Manager or Food Safety Officer of any non-conformance to GMP’s; Health and Safety and Food Safety procedures noted in the factory.
Assist QC Coordinator and Food Safety officer with “Trouble shooting” on customer complaints for product
Take part in taste panels and/or functional evaluations of raw materials with other
members of the technical team
Customer complaint investigations;
Evaluating dilutions of samples and received batches of chillies for capsaicin intensity.
Assist with annual Student interviews.
Perform tasks which relate to food quality and food safety when requested.
