Main Purpose of the Job:

Responsible for the efficient, safe and cost effective operation of UCD’s Reefer Department in Cape Town. Supervises the services, part and equipment stores and repair of refrigeration equipment fitted to containers, thus meeting the client’s requirements by ensuring excellent quality and service.

Education, experience and competencies required:
•Qualified Artisan (Trade Tested refrigeration Technician), or someone who has been in a similar trade
•Qualified Reefer Technician Preferable
•1-4 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
•Ability to manage and motivate a workforce
•Good all round engineering competence including the correct and safe use of power tools
•Ability to read, comprehend and write instructions, short correspondence and memos
•Minimum of Code 8 unendorsed drivers license essential

Duties and responsibilities:
•Ensuring all departmental daily activity is timeously and meticulously carried out with a focus towards profitability, production reports analysis and client satisfaction
•Competent staff are allocated to alternate duties when required
•Daily planning must be done with the Line and Operations Managers
•Next day activities to be properly planned ensuring staff, equipment and parts availability
•Short-term planning to be done monthly or when required with Line, Operations and Depot Manager
•Ensure all quotations and repairs are timeously and meticulously carried out to required standards
•Sign off all work whilst ensuring that due process was followed and costing is correct.
•Check monitoring reports and deal with errors and client complaints
•Ensure proper stores supervision is maintained
•Ensure that all work is completed lawfully and comply with client and Novagroup quality standards
•Work is inspected at planned stages and approved upon completion, records are kept and Job card is signed off
•Ensure clients administration and requirements are met in conjunction with the Line Manager, Depot Manager and National Reefer Manager
•Data capturing and reporting is done to company and client requirements; completed accurately and timeously
•Discrepancies to be investigated and analysed accurately and timeously reported to the Depot/Reefer Manager
•Ensure required train staff training is done and/or requested.
•Ensure manuals are appropriately stored and Rework and Manufactures notices files are current.
•Comply with OHS Act and Regulations and other statutes as applicable
•Ensure all department tools, equipment and vehicles maintained, fit for usage and controlled
