Major Duties
• Develops and maintains documentation relevant to assessment of risk to human health and the environment. Prepares and files regulatory documents.
• Performs and guides technical activities resulting from approved self-initiated or assigned technical programs leading to the regulatory compliance, assessment of safety to human health and the environment, liability avoidance, and product responsibility issues concerning existing or new chemicals, materials, products, hardgoods (where appropriate), and/or technologies or processes having major importance to the businesses of the unit(s) served.
• Pursues continuing education efforts to develop advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements, product responsibility skills and knowledge, and business, including an understanding of technologies applicable to the laboratories served.
• Implements an education plan appropriate for personnel in his/her unit.

Body of Knowledge
• Develops working knowledge of current local, state, federal and international regulations and of risk assessment procedures for environment, health, safety, and transportation appropriate to the assignment.
• Develops working knowledge and understanding of chemicals, technologies, processes, products, businesses, and product regulatory requirements important to the unit(s) served. Continues to develop working knowledge and understanding of, and may have some involvement with, external activities/regulatory initiatives and legal actions related to the businesses of the unit(s) being served.
• Develops working knowledge and understanding of and regularly utilizes available information resources and systems. Develops organizational and planning skills and applies them to the advancement of the needs of the unit(s) served.
• Develops skills in product responsibility liaison duties and procedures through training courses, counsel, guidance and/or supervision and appraisal from senior product responsibility individual(s). Develops communication skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Improves these skills through regular participation in appropriate training activities.

Education and Experience
This classification is an introductory position for Ph.D. graduates in a physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering science.
Appointee should also have training and experience in the technologies of the unit(s) served.
Degrees must be from an accredited college or university in the appropriate discipline.
