Our Client, and extremely well established hospital group in the United Arab Emirates (based in Abu Dhabi) is recruiting for a Rehabilitation Staff Nurse

Basic Purpose of the role

Understands, supports and promotes the mission, vision and values of Our Client's. Provides age appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi. Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. Supports promotion of health and delivery of health education. The primary focus of all of our rehabilitation team including nursing is the maximization of the patient’s potential so as to optimize their quality of life with a focus on physical, cognitive and psychological rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities of the role

Leadership
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues, the primary health care team, other health and social care service providers, to provide a comprehensive service to patients and carers.
Demonstrates sound critical thinking, conflict management and problem-solving ability.
Takes appropriate action regarding any accident or incident to patients, staffs or visitors within their scope of responsibility and in line with the organization’s policy.
Promotes an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health professionals.
Participates in annual performance reviews of themselves and others.
Participate in service development activities, identifying areas for improvement as appropriate.
Organizes and priorities own workload without direct supervision reporting any issues, concerns or personal limitations, to the team leaders.
Actively participates in organizational change in a constructive manner.
Acts as a preceptor to new staff as required.
Promotes the dissemination of information between teams, using effective communication channels.
Performs in-charge duties as delegated.


Clinical Practice
Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and scope of service.
Assist in the development of nursing standards, ensuring they meet professional, organization, legal and ethical requirements.
Identify, priorities and implement programs of care that meets the needs of the patients using a nursing model such as Roper Logan and Tierney’s Activities of Daily living.
Assumes accountability and responsibility for their own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond their level of competence.
Undertakes activities that promote health, reduce risk, prevent disease and optimize patient potential.
Acts as the patient advocate and to facilitate the patient’s own choices with regards to nursing care, emphasizing independence and self-care.
Identifies significant changes in patient conditions, initiates appropriate action and reports to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate.
Provides care and attention to the needs of vulnerable patients including risk assessments and taking appropriate action as required.
Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate to support the patient’s rights and dignity at all times.
Work with patients with intermediate care needs providing a rehabilitative approach to care, which promotes maximum independence and quality of life.
Engages the patient, family and all members of the multidisciplinary care team in identifying level of care needs and implementing strategies to meet them on patient discharge from acute rehabilitation services.
Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of cross cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.
Actively supports and participates in quality improvement and research initiatives.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care.
Administers medications according to organization policies and procedures. Understands actions of medication and contraindications, evaluates patient’s response and identifies side effects and initiates appropriate action.
Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organizations policies, procedures and emergency plans.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of resource consumption and practices within a cost-effective framework.


Communication
Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and the organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
Is accountable and Responsible for comprehensive documentation and participates in the documentation review process.
Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.
Liaises with other health care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions for patients
Actively participates in meetings, rounds and case conferences in the role of primary nurse.
Ensures that all documentation is compliant with organization policies and procedures.
Ensures documentation reflects a continuous, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of all patient care events.
Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the health care team.
Accountable for a customer service approach when interacting with patients, families and others working towards facilitating a solution to any issues or concerns.

Performance Improvement/Risk Management
Participates in quality improvement activities by assisting with the development of standards, implementation and review of policies, procedures, guidelines, evaluation of indicators and reporting of outcomes and trends.
Monitors and assists in evaluating unit operation and services to correct problems, improve systems and ensure safe patient care.
Participates in interdisciplinary teams and FOCUS PDCA Projects for the evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.
Actively contributes to the organizations’ culture of patient safety.
Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patient, visitors, other staff, and self. Identify faulty / defective equipment / furniture; remove from service and report to immediate supervisor for action.
Complies with International and HAAD patient safety goals.
Actively promotes and complies with the organisation’s Infection Control policies and procedures.
Identifies, manages and reports incidents to immediate supervisor and to physician as required. Completes appropriate documentation according to organization policy.

Education
Assesses patient and family education needs, plan for and provide education and evaluates outcome.
Provides a suitable environment that supports patient and family learning.
Ensures patient and family are provided with comprehensive information and resources to meet their health care needs.
Engages in health promotion activities in the healthcare organization and community.
Identifies and communicates appropriate support structures available to patients and families.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
Comply with all Our Client's Occupational Safety & Health Management System and related policies, instructions and safe working procedures applicable to the working place.
Use the appropriate PPE and safe systems which are related to the tasks.
Be familiar with and attend training related to Our Client's emergency procedures.
Be responsible for own health and safety, and others.
Be responsible for working environment, hospital property that may be affected or damaged by the working activities.
Report to the line manage/supervisor immediately about Occupational Safety & Health incidents and/or non-compliances revealed at the course of their work.
Attend Our Client's’s mandatory Occupational Safety & Health trainings in accordance with the Occupational Safety & Health Management System requirements.
Be familiar with the risk assessment register during induction & orientation.
Be fully aware of the nominated role and responsibilities in case of emergency situations.
Maintain good housekeeping practices.
Take the required precautions to reduce noise and dust generation to level that does not affect residents/patients, staff, other workers, visitors and other interested parties.
Supervise subcontractor’s activities as necessary.
Notify and report any hazards to the Facility Coordinator.
Notify the Facility Coordinator of any hazardous materials brought to/supplied to site.

Professional Responsibilities
Implements rehabilitation nursing care based on scientific knowledge and rehabilitation principles.
Recognizes and implements nursing care in line with the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Competency Model.
Promotes self-management with a goal of attaining maximum function in activities of daily living and empowers patient self-advocacy.
Identifies temporary or permanent alterations in function resulting from the patient’s injury or illness and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement a plan of care.
Works with the patients and families to establish realistic goals within the existing condition and available resources.
Facilitates and assists with exercise and other rehabilitation programs, promotes preventive skin care techniques and ensures proper positioning to prevent further disability.
Is versed in care techniques related to bowel and bladder function and control.
Understands and implements adaptation techniques related to physical and/or emotional lifestyle changes providing education and guidance linked to attaining new skills.
Collaborates with the patient, family and discharge coordinator to ensure a smooth transition into the community.
Acts as a resource for colleagues, patients, families and others with regards to rehabilitative care and support.
Uses supportive technology for improving the quality of life.

General
Act as an advocate for the vulnerable, challenging poor practice and discriminatory attitudes and behaviour relating to their care.
Be expected to contribute to the wider corporate and organisational development needs as appropriate within scope of practice.
Provides age appropriate resident/patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by HAAD.
Upholds the organisation customer service standards at all time.
Responsible of resolving report incidents, including near misses; to ensure as an organisation we learn.
Compliance with Abu Dhabi Environmental Health & Safety Management System which integrates with the Health and Safety regulations of the facility.
Adheres to and promotes recommended practice in relation to controlling and preventing infection, by taking all reasonable personal precautions necessary to avoid any potential health risks to colleagues, resident/patients’/patients’, families and visitors.

Qualifications, Certifications & Experience
Qualifications & Certifications:
Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or equivalent qualifications of NLT 3 years study duration from an accredited program plus successful completion of a post graduate/post basic specialist training program of at least 6 months duration.
Current National License
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
Desired:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate

Experience
Not less than 3 years postgraduate experience in an appropriate & relevant health care setting to include not less than 2 years experience in a rehabilitation orientated nursing.
