Research Administrator (12 months fixed term contract)

Main purpose of the job
To assist with the execution of facility-based syndromic surveillance for respiratory infections and associated special studies which forms part of the research and surveillance activities of the NICD’s Centre for Respiratory Diseases and Meningitis.

Location
Johannesburg

Key performance areas
Collect demographic and clinical data from patients meeting the surveillance or research study
case definitions.
Complete structured interviews and informed consent with patients who meet the case definition for surveillance or research projects.
Complete surveillance related documentation such as screening logs.
Monitor the progress and outcome of patients in and out of the hospital to ensure accurate data collection and recording.
Perform other study related duties, such a photocopying and data entry from study questionnaires as requested by the senior study staff.
Assist with maintaining stock and inventories of surveillance documents and follow up on patients for study outcomes.
File surveillance and research records on-site after data collection, according to the relevant protocol.
Perform tasks assigned by the line manager, related to influenza vaccination surveillance and research programmes.
Follow established policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvements objectives, safety, environmental or infection control to ensure compliance

Required minimum education and training
Grade 12 with Science and Mathematics
HIV VCT education and counseling course will be advantageous

Required minimum work experience
Minimum 1 years’ relevant working experience

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Crisis Intervention and counselling skills
Good written and verbal Communication skills
Good Interpersonal Skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work under pressure and pay attention to details.
