Research Assistant (2 years fixed term contract)

Main purpose of the job
To provide research support to the team for a program on cost effectiveness and evidence- based approaches in setting health priorities in SA. The work will build on PRICELESS SA’s already established base of economic evaluation that is immediately relevant to health priorities in South Africa.

Location
School of Public Health – University of Witwatersrand

Key performance areas
Collection and analysis of data
Writing up of research results, research reports and manuscripts for publication
Ability to conduct literature searches and to synthesize information
Assist with grant writing
Assist with drafting letters, meeting agendas and preparing presentations.

Required minimum education and training
A Master’s degree in Social Sciences or Public Health/Epidemiology, Statistics, Engineering or Actuarial Science.
Experience in use of MS Office (particularly Excel).

Required minimum work experience
Minimum of 2 years’ work experience.

Additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Experience working in a public health environment, donor funded organisation or NGO.
Ability to prepare grant proposals would be an added advantage.
Excellent writing and computer skills.
Able to maintain confidentiality, tact and professionalism at all times.
Display a high level of initiative and independent decision-making.
Strong communication skills.
Mature individual who can work independently as well as be a strong team player.
Demonstrate resourcefulness, intellectual creativity and adaptability.
Self-motivated with a high regard for work ethic, value and integrity.
